The World Senior Citizen's Day is celebrated on 21 August each year.[1]

The celebration took place for the first time in 1991.[2][3] The day is intended to increase awareness of the factors and issues that affect older adults, such as health deterioration and elder abuse. It is also a day to recognize and acknowledge the contributions of older people to society.[4][5]
History
editThe history of the World Senior Citizen's Day dates back to 1988. It was officially founded by the former President of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan.[6] He had signed on August 19, 1988, the promulgation of 5847,[7] which appeared on 21 August as National Day of the Third Age.[8][9][10] Ronald Reagan was the first to announce the first National Day of the Third Age.[11]
"For all that, they have achieved throughout their lives and for all that they continue to do, we owe our gratitude and sincere greetings to our senior citizens. We can show our gratitude and appreciation better by making sure our communities are good places. Age and maturity, places where older people can participate as much as possible and find the encouragement, acceptance, support and services they need to continue living a life of independence and dignity.
Purpose
editWorld Senior Citizen's Day is an opportunity to celebrate and appreciate senior citizens for their services, accomplishments, and dedication they have given in their lives.[12][13]
