Wang entered his first World Cube Association competition in September 2019, at age 5.[3] He won his first competition title in January 2021, at age 7.[4] In August 2023, at age 9, he came within 0.01 seconds of winning the 2023 World Cube Association World Championship, finishing in second place just behind Max Park.[5]

Wang first set the 3×3×3 average record as a nine-year-old, on March 10, 2023, at a meet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a time of 4.69 seconds.[6][7] The previous record of 4.86 seconds had been held jointly by American Max Park and Poland's Tymon Kolasiński [fi].[8] Since then, Wang has set new world records in the event three more times, lowering his time to 4.48, 4.36, and 4.25 seconds. [9][10]

In terms of average, Wang has achieved the 14 fastest averages of 5 of all time and 42 of the world's 58 averages under 5 second as of September 2024.[11]

In addition to his record for 3×3×3 average, Wang has the second-fastest single 3×3×3 solve ever at 3.38 seconds, behind only Park's 3.13.[12] In all, Wang owns 6 of the 20 fastest individual solves of all time.[13]

Wang also competes on the smaller 2×2×2 cube and currently holds the world record for average time at 0.78 seconds, and he has a single of 0.49 seconds, which is 4th in the world.[14] He was the first cuber to record an official average under 1 second in competition.[15]
