Yizhak Halperin

Yizhak Halperin (17 October 1890, Zikhron Ya'akov – 3 January 1960, Binyamina) was an Israeli farmer and a member of the NILI spy network.

Biography

Yizhak Halperin was born in 1890 in Zikhron Ya'akov to Yerachmiel and Rivka Halperin, founders of the settlement. He was educated locally and worked on his family's farm. In 1911, he was conscripted into the Ottoman army and participated in the First Balkan War. In 1913, he bought land in Shuni from the Jewish Colonization Association and began farming. In 1914, he joined the Gideonim organization and guarded the fields.

In 1915, Halperin joined the NILI underground, relaying information between its members. When NILI was exposed in 1917, Halperin evaded capture but was eventually arrested, tortured, and imprisoned in Damascus until its capture in 1918.

In 1922, he moved to Binyamina, where he established his home.

Family

In 1920, Halperin married Shoshana, daughter of Yisrael Shneor Zalman Samsonov. They had one daughter and two sons. Halperin died in 1960 and was buried in Binyamina. Shoshana passed away in 1962 and was buried beside him.
