Preparation
editYtterbium monotelluride can be produced by the high-temperature reduction reaction of ytterbium(III) telluride (Yb2Te3),[1] or by the reaction of ytterbium(III) chloride, tellurium and hydrogen:[2]
- YbCl3 + H2 → YbCl2 + 2 HCl
- YbCl2 + H2 + Te → YbTe + 2 HCl
The thermal decomposition of [(py)2Yb(μ-η2-η2-PhNNPh)(TePh)]2·2py will also produce ytterbium monotelluride, but at the same time, ytterbium(III) nitride will be produced.[3]
