Bandipora district has frequently been a site of clashes between Indian security forces and militant groups. Militants belonging to The Resistance Front have been suspected in previous attacks targeting Indian security installations in the region.[2]

The Attack

The incident reportedly began around 9:00 PM IST when militants allegedly associated with the TRF launched a "fire raid" on the army camp in Bilal Colony, targeting personnel stationed at the site.[3] Following the initial exchange, the militants retreated, prompting Indian forces to launch a search operation in the area. The Indian Army's Chinar Corps confirmed that after spotting suspicious movement, security personnel challenged the militants, who then opened indiscriminate fire and fled into a nearby forest.[4]

Aftermath

As of the latest reports, security forces have expanded search operations within the Bandipora area in an effort to locate the assailants, and the search is ongoing.[5]
