Anasuya Sengupta (actress)

Anasuya Sengupta (born: 1 September 1986) is an Indian actress and production designer. She has established a career in the film industry, as well as winning the Performance Awards in the Un Certain Regard Award category at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.[1][2]

Early life

Sengupta was born and brought up in a Bengali family in Kolkata, West Bengal.[2][3] She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Jadavpur University, but wanted to establish herself as a journalist.[4][5][6]

Acting career

Sengupta played a supporting role in the 2009 movie Madly Bangalee, directed by Anjan Dutt and worked as a director's assistant to Claire McCarthy for The Waiting City that same year.[2][7] She dabbled in theater for some time before shifting to Mumbai in 2013. She started working as a production designer in Mumbai.[4][2]

Accolades

Sengupta won the Performance Awards in the Un Certain Regard Award category of the Cannes Film Festival. She won the award for her performance in The Shameless (2024).[1][2][8]
