Category Ambiguity
editThe minor disagreement about She Who Became the Sun has revealed some linguistic ambiguity here. Is this category page (1) for alternate history novels published in China, regardless of their setting, (2) for alternate history novels set in China, regardless of their country of origin, or (3) both? (Or some other option?) My vote is preferentially for option 2, and secondarily for option 3. There are also no categories entitled "Alternate history novels set in China" or any other nation, to my knowledge. Pinging @Andro611: for discussion. - My vote is for 1. Because 2 would better fit in a category "Alternate history novels set in China". I don't think alternate histories are divided across nations in the same way we categorise actual history, for the simple reason that there is less alternate history than there is history itself. Rather we should group this and other similar novels as “Australian [...] novels” because they are Australian and not Chinese. After all we don't categorise Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare as an Italian romantic comedy, it is in the “English renaissance plays” category.
- Thus far the two novels in the category are Chinese by authorship and country of origin. Andro611 (talk) 00:03, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
