Undead films?

edit

I listed this category as a subcategory of the Fictional Undead category for now, out of expediency. However, would it be wise/worth the time to sort through all horror films and compile a list of all undead movies? It seems like a lot of work for not much benefit. The greater proportion of horror films are about undead in some form.--Fourthgeek 09:17, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Town taken over

edit

I think that this article could be improved if a category were created for horror films about towns that have been taken over by aliens, by demonic forces, by clowns or puppets, by wild animals, by killer bulldozers, whatever.

Specifically, I'm trying to locate a movie I saw on Showtime or HBO in the 1980s where this guy is attempting to pass through the Rocky Mountains in the winter, but as he drives his jeep along, and manages to adjust his carburetor for higher altitude, he enters into a town in Utah (perhaps), and finds that his car is mysteriously losing power, and ultimately comes to a halt. He checks in at a lodge, and it is pretty cold and snowy. Before you know it, it gets worse when the whole town loses power (I hope I am remembering this correctly), and the loss of power appears to be related to a mineshaft that has recently broken into a crevice in the earth, awakening an ancient evil force that feeds on electricity, and maybe also on warmth. The movie was shot in the 1980s. There are a variety of horrifying misadventures as the inhabitants of the small town lodge or inn get picked away, one by one, until two or three people remain, and one of them has the bright idea of trying to reason with the evil force, which is capable of animating some of the humans it has killed, and speaking through them. (Which movie was it? As I understand it, this was a 1980s precursor to the Star Trek episode where the evil black pond of tar kills the security officer.)

If somebody could identify this movie, it would help a lot.

The movie could be Phantoms.

The second season of Outer Limits 2 contains an episode titled "From Within", and that might be the movie (but the second season of Outer Limits dates from 1995 to 2002). Check out List of The Outer Limits episodes to see if any of the episodes rings a bell.
