What is this category for?
editCopperchair seems to have decided that this category is only applicable to the Star Wars episodes (e.g., A New Hope, Revenge of the Sith, etc.). I, on the other hand, think this category should be for what it's name implies: films set in the Star Wars universe. This would include things such as The Star Wars Holiday Special and the Ewok television specials, among others. Category:Star Wars fan films or somesuch would be a subcategory to cover things like Troops.
At any rate, I don't agree with Copperchair's very narrow interpretation of the category. I'd like to hear what others think so this doesn't end up as a me-vs.-Copperchair edit war. So, what say the rest of you? BrianSmithson 12:49, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
On a related subject there were several films in this category because they influenced Star Wars such as Hidden Fortress and The Dambusters. While I didn't think that was such a good idea I think they hould have been moved to a 'Films which influenced Star Wars' category not just deleted.--Shimbo 15:31, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

editWe need to determine what this category covers. Is it just the theatrically released Star Wars films (i.e., the "Episodes") (Option 1), or does it cover other Star Wars-related films released by LucasFilm (e.g., The Star Wars Holiday Special) (Option 2). Can the definition be even broader to cover notable fan films (e.g., Troops), or films that inspired or influence Lucas's creation of the theatrical films (Option 3)?
Right now, it seems that Copperchair advocates Option 1. Adamwankenobi and myself advocate Option 2. Shimbo has raised questions about the applicability of Option 3. I would like to see this resolved soon, as Copperchair and Adamwankenobi are currently embroiled in a slow-motion edit war over the issue. BrianSmithson 12:15, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
- It seems to me that this category should cover all Star Wars-based films: the original trilogy, the Holiday Special, George Lucas's three fanfilms, any third-party fanfilms, and things like The Phantom Edit. Films that are not directly related to Star Wars (such as Spaceballs) should not be in the category. --Carnildo 18:47, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
- As the category is not Star Wars episodes, I must go with option 2, maybe with leeway for option 3. --Apostrophe 03:19, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- I think there should be a subcategory to this: Star Wars spin-off films. That way, the category can be kept clean with the 6 main episodes. Coffee 09:01, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- I went ahead and made the subcategory for spin-off films. I think that will keep both sides pleased. Also, I added this category to Category:Fantasy films, which may raise a few eyebrows. Star Wars is a fantasy film based on the definition at Fantasy, and it is cited as an example at Fantasy subgenres (under "Science fantasy"). Coffee 20:22, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- The new layout is fine with me. Now if we can just discuss Shadows of the Empire. Adamwankenobi 00:54, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

Is star wars a war film?
- Read the definition. It fits the profile. The PT takes place during the Clone Wars, and the OT during the Galactic Civil War. The Wookieepedian 01:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Epic films and robot films?
editCan we please add this category to Category:Epic films and Category:Robot films? I don't see why the films should be added individually, especially since ALL the films are robot films as well as epic films. PRProgRock (talk) 02:01, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Are the films specifically about robots? No, so none of them belong in the category for robot films. MikeWazowski (talk) 00:47, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe not, but there are robot characters in ALL six of them. Can we put them in the Category:Epic films? PRProgRock (talk) 18:00, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Genres
editPlease do not add genres that are not primarily used to describe the films. You need sources for genre as genre is subjective. Andrzejbanas (talk) 04:07, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
