D.A.V. P.G. College, Lucknow

D.A.V. P.G. College also known as DAV Degree College[2] is a Government-Aided degree college affiliated to the University of Lucknow[3][4][5] and recognised by University Grants Commission. It was established in 1948 by Pandit Ras Bihari Tiwari and Shri Bhrigu Dutt Tiwari. It is based on the ideals of Dayananda Saraswati and Arya Samaj. The college has its origin in a school started in the premises of Arya Samaj temple in Ganeshganj locality in 1918. In 1926, the school shifted to the present premises, and graduate classes were started in 1956.[6][7]

Spread over 25 acres, the main campus is situated in Arya Nagar, near Naka Hindola, 1 km from Charbagh Railway Station. It offers graduate courses in Arts, Law and Science stream. It has two campuses, one for Law and another for Arts And Science. In 2012, India Today placed the college amongst top 5 "Best Science Colleges in Lucknow".[8]

The college offers undergraduate courses in B.A., B.Sc., and LL.B, and a postgraduate course in M.A. (Ancient Indian History) within the field of Indian History.

The college also offers job-oriented add-on certificate courses, including Traditional Hand Embroidery, Information Technology (IT) Coordinator in Schools, and a Diploma in Yoga. These programs are designed to provide practical skills and qualifications that enhance career opportunities in their respective fields.

The college has a central library. There are science laboratories for geography, physics, chemistry, zoology, and botany. The Pt. Bhrigu Dutt Tiwari Auditorium is air-conditioned and has sound and lighting systems. There is a canteen for staff and students, filtered water coolers, separate washrooms for boys and girls on each floor, and a girls' common hall with books, magazines, and indoor games.

The college has a sports field, a football field, a basketball court, and an indoor sports complex with facilities for volleyball, kabaddi, table tennis, badminton, chess, handball, carrom, football, and cricket. There is a Science Club, affiliated with Vigyan Prasar and a Culture and Heritage Club. The Herbal Garden has over 20 medicinal plant varieties, supporting environmental sustainability.

There are NCC (National Cadet Corps) units for boys and a new unit for girls, NSS (National Service Scheme) for community engagement, and a Directorate of Student Welfare (DSW) for resolving student issues. The Career Counselling and Placement Cell aids in career guidance and job placements, and an Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to monitor standards and address grievances.

The campus is eco-friendly, incorporating water harvesting, solar street lights, and solar panels. It is committed to being ragging-free and accessible to students with disabilities, with parking facilities for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Additional features include a Proctorial Board for discipline, a Media Cell/Social Media Cell for communication, and regular national and international seminars/webinars for learning opportunities. Students can access government scholarships and schemes. The college celebrates student achievements with the annual fest, Abhivyakyti,[9] and reports contributions in its magazine, Deepshikha.
