Description

edit

Devkhal Jheel is a famous lake located at Bhagwanpur Kamala Panchayat in the Ujiyarpur block of the Samastipur district in the Mithila region of Bihar in India. There is a Chhath Ghat known as Kamala Ghat on one bank of the lake.[5] According to legend, it is believed that the Devkhal Jheel was the location associated with the epic Mahabharata where the famous dialogues between Yaksha and Yudhishthira took place.[1][2] It is said that the Pandavas had traveled by this route during their Agyaata Vaasa (unknown stay).[6]

In the vicinity of the Devkhal Chaur, there is an another ancient place known as Jaymangla Mata Sthan. In the campus of the Jaymangla Sthan, there is a famous temple of the Goddess Jaymangla Devi. The temple is called as Jaymangla Mata Mandir. According to the legend, it is said that the King Yudhishthira also known as Dharmaraja did Aradhana to the Goddess Jaymangla Devi at the Jaymangla Mata Sthan.[1]

The Noon River flowing through the village is one of the source of water for the lake.[6]
