Adrian Usher is the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, having taken up the role in April 2023.[1]. He previously worked for the Metropolitan police[2].

Originally from Sheffield, Adrian joined the Metropolitan police in 1987.

During a 35 year career he rose through 7 different ranks reaching the rank of Commander. His career was predominantly within the CID, he completed the Senior Investigators Officers’ (SIO) training in 2006. He led various departments and operations including those concerned with the investigation of volume and serious crime, anti-corruption investigations, and public order policing including the planning and delivery of the Olympic Torch for the 2012 London Olympics, protecting the flame on its 8000-mile journey from Athens and around the UK until delivering it to the opening ceremony.

He led the delivery of all policing services as Barnet Borough Commander between 2012 and 2016. As a Commander within Counter-Terrorism, he was the UK lead for Protection overseeing all national and international operations.

He retired from the MPS in March 2023 and took up the role of Prisons and Probation Ombudsman for England and Wales in April 2023[3]
