Oba Ajibola Raphael Olaleye Oluyede, Ise Oluwa II, was a Nigerian monarch. He was the latest traditional ruler of Ayede Ogbese, a traditional state in northern Ondo State. He was proclaimed Alayede of Ayede Ogbese in 2021, taking the regnal name Ise Oluwa II in honor of his father, Ise Oluwa I[1] and succeeded his uncle, the late Oba Isaac Ayodele Oluyede V.
Personal life
editHRM Alayeluwa Oba Ajibola Raphael Olaleye Oluyede, Ise Oluwa II, the Alayede of Ayede Ogbese was born on the 22nd of October 1958. He was the first son of His Royal Majesty, the late Oba (Professor) Peter Adetunmbi Oluyede (Ise Oluwa 1) and Chief (Mrs.) Dorcas Titilola Oluyede. He was married with children and grandchildren to HRH Olori Oluwafunmilayo Ajibola-Oluyede, his lifelong wife and soulmate of 42 years.
Professional career
editOba Oluyede was educated at the University of Ife Staff School, Ibadan Campus – 1964; Ulsterville Primary School, Belfast, Northern Ireland – 1966-1970; University of Ife Staff School, Ile Ife Campus – 1970-1971; Government College Ibadan – 1971-1975; Kings College Lagos – 1976-1977; University of Ife, Ile Ife – 1977-1980; The Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos – 1980-1981; Patmos Bible School of Faith, Lagos, Nigeria – 1994-1995; Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom and Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Illinois, USA.
Described by a national newspaper as the quintessential lawyer, Oba Oluyede who was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1981, effectively traversed the entire gamut of legal practice in Nigeria as a renowned, resilient and efficacious litigator and counsellor. He was generally widely-acclaimed as an extraordinarily talented, cerebral, and outstandingly courageous senior legal practitioner from whom several generations of lawyers in the profession (Judges, SANs, Benchers et al) learned and became proficient in law, practice and procedure.
Regularly consulted, he acted in respect of various high-profile matters involving many well-known Nigerian figures, as a much sought-after litigator and strategist for high-stakes cases, within and outside Nigeria.
Although constantly acknowledged by “Who’s Who Legal” as one of Nigeria’s top litigators, Oba Oluyede adamantly refused to apply for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria despite pressure, due to his principled position that the ranking is unconstitutional in a Republican Nigeria and is an obstruction to access to justice for all.
Oba Oluyede chaired and sat on the boards of several significant global enterprises in multiple industries, including real estate, energy, natural resources and agriculture.
An ordained Minister/Pastor of Christ Chapel International Churches, Oba Oluyede served as the inaugural Centre Pastor of the Ikeja Worship Centre of that ministry until 2001. A man of personal convictions and devotion to the Lordship of JESUS CHRIST, he continued to serve till his demise, as a member of the Advisory Council of that church, under the spiritual tutelage of the ministry of the legendary Rev. Dr. & Rev. (Mrs.) Chris Tunde and Victoria E. Joda.
