Alessandro Rolandi (born April 18, 1971) is an Italian multimedia artist, researcher, educator, and social activist. He is known for his work that explores social intervention and relational dynamics within the field of art.[1] Rolandi has lived and worked in various locations, including Beijing from 2002 to 2020, and is currently based in Bern, Switzerland.[2]
Early life and education
editRolandi was born in Pavia, Italy, where he began his academic journey by studying chemistry at the universities of Pavia and Siena.[2] His artistic education includes training in theater at the Scuola Europea di Danza e Teatro Carcano in Milan and experimental theater and film making with Dominique Defazio and Eleonora Marino. [2]He furthered his studies with a Master’s degree in the History of Art & Market at Christie’s Education in Paris and Cambridge University[2], as well as obtaining a certificate in Asian Environmental Humanities from Zurich University. [2]
Rolandi received formal training in plastic arts through frequent visits to the studios of professional artists. During this time, he interacted closely with notable figures such as the painter Oliviero Masi and the sculptors Saint Clair Cemin [2] and Not Vital, serving as a pupil, friend, and mentee to them. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Global Media and Digital Culture at SOAS, University of London. [2]

editIn 2010, Rolandi founded the Social Sensibility R&D Department at Bernard Controls Industries in Beijing[6][7], where he developed projects that integrate artistic practice into the workplace.[6] [7]This initiative aims to substitute creativity and impulsiveness among local artists and factory employees, emphasizing collaboration and exploration.
