Production

edit

In January 2017, Warner Bros. Pictures was reported to be negotiating a deal to acquire the film rights for producer David Heyman.[1] However Kodansha, who own the rights, quickly denied the report the same month.[2] In October 2018, Warner Bros. eventually closed a deal, announcing Andy Muschietti as director, with Masi Oka and Barbara Muschietti joining Heyman as producers.[3] Muschietti, having seen the anime in addition to reading the manga, stated that the draw for him to direct was the human drama of the characters, calling it “fascinating”.[4]
