CrewLAB

CrewLAB is a sports team management software platform designed for competitive rowing, swimming, and running programs. The platform provides tools for training logging, team communication, athlete wellness tracking, and performance analytics, accessible via web and mobile applications. As of 2025, the company reported serving over 2,000 teams across North America, Europe, and Australasia.

Early History and Funding

CrewLAB was founded in 2019[1] by Simon Hoadley, a former UCLA rowing coach, along with former UCLA rowing captains Dominic Pardini and Tim Maytom[2]. According to reporting by Sports Business Journal[3], the platform originated from Hoadley's experience when he sought alternatives to fragmented tools such as spreadsheets and email for managing team communications.

The company participated in the UCLA Startup Accelerator Program and UCLA Draper Innovation Showcase[4], and was a finalist in the 2022 Boston University New Venture Competition, where it won the Audience Choice award. In February 2024, CrewLAB raised $1.6 million in Series A funding led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA) Scott Sandell[5], with participation from Manning Ventures[6][7]. The early investors and advisors included Pat Manning, an Olympic medalist rower for USA, and Drew Ginn, a three time Olympic champion from Australia.

National governing body partnerships

Between 2023 and 2025, CrewLAB entered into technology agreements with four national governing bodies for endurance sports.[3]

In December 2023, CrewLAB entered a partnership with USRowing to provide member organizations with platform access and onboarding support.[8]

A partnership with Rowing New Zealand was announced in October 2024 and subsequently extended in November 2025.[9] High Performance Sport New Zealand, the government body responsible for New Zealand's elite sport programs, noted in February 2026 that Rowing New Zealand had adopted CrewLAB as part of its national athlete development pathway, using the platform for year-round athlete monitoring alongside other performance tools.[10]

Rowing Canada Aviron partnered with CrewLAB in November 2025 to support athlete development programs.[11][12]

In November 2024, USA Swimming made CrewLAB available to all member clubs. According to Sports Business Journal, USA Swimming's membership of approximately 380,000 represented the company's largest institutional adoption to date, and marked CrewLAB's fourth agreement with a national governing body for endurance sports.[13][14]

Platform Features

The CrewLAB platform allows endurance athletes to log training sessions including swimming, rowing, ergometer workouts, running, and cross-training. The system supports integration with third-party fitness devices such as Garmin, Coros, Apple Health and Concept2. The platform includes team communication features, scheduling tools, and daily wellness check-ins.[2]

In 2024, CrewLAB partnered with the athlete safety initiative #WeRideTogether to implement safeguarding protocols within its communication systems.[15]
