editChatterjee was born in Calcutta, India to a Bengali Brahmin family. Chatterjee is married to Himadri Banerjee. The couple has a son.

editShe has completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Astronautics and Space Engineering from the Centre for Autonomous and Cyberphysical Systems of Cranfield University, United Kingdom. She has also completed her post doctorate research in Missile Radar from the Centre for Electronic Warfare, Information and Cyber of Cranfield University Defence and Space, United Kingdom.
Career
editChatterjee is working in the European Space Sector since 2018. A few of her projects include:

- Moonlight LCNS: Lunar Communication and Navigation Services (ESA project)
