History

edit

Ellucian was formed as a result of the merger between Datatel, Inc. and SunGard Higher Education.[4] SunGard Higher Education was founded in 1983, while Datatel, Inc. was founded in 1968.[5]

In 2011, Datatel and SunGard Higher Education signed definitive agreements to combine businesses and operate as a new holding company focused on serving education institutions. In 2012, the transaction was finalized and the agreement cleared the Department of Justice review, resulting in a new entity called Ellucian.[6][7]

In 2015, private equity firms TPG Capital and Leonard Green Partners acquired a majority stake in Ellucian, which was then acquired by Blackstone and Vista Equity Partners in 2021.[1]

In April 2022, Ellucian acquired Arizona-based CampusLogic, a financial aid software provider.[8]
