The Gibraltar women's national under-19 football team represents the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar in international women's association football at under-19 level. Since 2022 it has competed to qualify for the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship.

History

edit

Since joining UEFA in 2013, Gibraltar's involvement in UEFA sanctioned women's football has been largely limited to sending under-16 girls' teams to participate in development tournaments, most recently in Malta in 2019.[2] In June 2021 the senior team made their debut in a full international, in a 4–1 defeat to Liechtenstein.[3]

In November that year, it was announced that an under-19 team would be formed and entered into qualification for the 2023 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship, the first time Gibraltar has entered a women's team in competitive UEFA-sanctioned football at any level.[4] The first squad, led by Portuguese coach Tiago Lino da Costa, was announced on 2 November 2022.[5]

In May 2023, Scott Wiseman was appointed Women's Football Development Manager, in a move which also sees him take over coaching of the senior and under-19 women's teams.[6]

In 2024 they took part in specialised training with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment as part of their preparations for the second stage of 2024 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship qualification.[7]
