JMP.chat is an XMPP to SMS gateway service. It allows users to utilize Jabber.org to access phone numbers across an array of devices. It supports multiple phone numbers and group discussions[4]. The platform supports voice messages and is entirely FLOSS[5] [6]. It was created positioned as a potential FLOSS replacement for Google Voice[7][8].
The application allows users to send and receive text messages over XMPP[9]—acting as a bridge for the protocol. Porting existing numbers is also supported[10].
The project's current development is led by Soprani.ca[11].
Reception
editThe JMP.chat project is supported on LibrePlanet's NoPhone initiative [12] and the Above Phone project[13]
