Harrell served in the United States Army, including a deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom.[4] He suffered an injury during his military service and has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.[5]

Nonprofit work

[edit]

Harrell is the founder and former chief executive officer of Veteran's Club Inc., a Kentucky-based nonprofit organization that provides programs and services for veterans and first responders.[6]

Federal conviction and sentencing

[edit]

In 2023, Harrell was indicted in federal court on charges related to theft of government funds after prosecutors alleged that he continued receiving disability-related individual unemployability benefits from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs while working full time as a volunteer for his nonprofit.[7] He was convicted by a jury and, in 2024, sentenced to six imprison, supervised release, restitution, and forfeiture.[8] He appealed his sentence in 2025, but in July 2026 the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit affirmed the district court's judgment.[9][10]
