Johari Branch (born September 18, 1998)[1] is an American football center for the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League (IFL). He previously played for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League. He played college football at Eastern Illinois, Independence Community College and Maryland.
Early life and high school
editBranch grew up in Chicago, Illinois and attended Urban Prep Academies where he started his high school football career. He then transferred Phillips Academy where he played both offensive guard and defensive tackle as well as helping the team advance to the IHSA Class 4A state semifinals as a senior.[2]
College career
editEastern Illinois
editBranch redshirted his freshman season in 2017. He played 10 games and started 6 in 2018 and was ranked one of the nation's top FCS offenses.[2]
Independence CC
editBranch played 4 games at Independence during the 2019 season.[3]
Maryland
editBranch committed to play for the Maryland Terrapins on December 18, 2019.[4] In the 2020 season, he started all five games on left guard and was only one of six players to start in all five games. In the 2021 season, Branch started in all 13 games on right guard and was part of the Pro Football Offensive Line of the Week after their game against Kent State. In the 2022 season, he started the first 12 games on the offensive line, 8 games at center and 4 games at guard.[5][6]

Los Angeles Chargers
editAfter not being selected in the 2023 NFL draft, Branch signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent.[8] He was waived on August 29, 2023.[9]
Massachusetts Pirates
editOn May 17, 2024, Branch was signed by the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League (IFL).[10]
