trying to create my bio page
editI am confused how to create my author bio page like other authors. Please help. Thanks DavidBrownP53 (talk) 16:21, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hello there, and welcome to Wikipedia. Creating your "author bio page" (in other words, writing about yourself) can lead to a conflict of interest, and it is generally advised against. See here for what Wikipedia defines as conflict of interest and here for why you are strongly advised against writing about yourself on Wikipedia.
- Do let me know if you have further questions.
- In fact, I can help you dissect it that writing about yourself (autobiographies) is generally discouraged because it presents challenges in maintaining objectivity and providing verifiable information, often leading to potential issues in achieving a neutral and balanced perspective. You can see more problems about writing about yourself here. I really hope this helps you. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 16:35, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- How are others on wiki allowed to have a Bio? Example the other author David W. Brown? 2601:1C2:4F00:D2B0:D905:5850:A598:1A98 (talk) 22:18, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Are you talking about David W. Brown? The subject of the article did not come by themselves to create an article. It was created by someone random because Brown was clearly notable as of the time of writing the article.
- What this means is that you should not worry about creating an article about yourself. If you are notable as an author (what this means is that you have made significant contributions to your field as an author, then someone random who you don't even know would come up with something for you.
- But if you're so sure that you meet any of the criteria listed at this page, then you can try using the article wizard to create a draft of the article, there at Articles for creation, several people will have to look at it (review it) to make sure it is of standard before deciding to publish it from draftspace to mainspace or not. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 22:27, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Please send me the defined legal criteria guidelines for the review process also please list the individuals that are responsible for the review, please. 73.96.65.221 (talk) 22:40, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- I really want to help you understand this whole thing. But first, you have to read that page I linked above and tell me which of the criteria you think you meet as an author? From there I’d know if you should proceed to articles for creation at all. You don’t need the list of individuals per se. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 22:44, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

WP Oral tradition
editHi, hope you're well, how're you getting on with the userbox? Finally getting round to tagging lol Kowal2701 (talk) 16:59, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Kowal2701 Oh Hi Kowal, thank God you're here. I got stocked at the choice of image that could be in the userbox, lol, what image do you think we could use? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 17:01, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Good question. Personally I think something like this would be good, since this is English wikipedia, the characters being Native American might be most appropriate, although ideally we'd have a universal one. Some more: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], what do you think? Kowal2701 (talk) 17:12, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Don't forget that we need to be able to upload the image, right? So, we need to choose an image that we could upload or something? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 17:24, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Kowal2701 I put something here, by the way. Anything about the image? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 17:44, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- That's a bit eerie but still very good. I think I prefer this, although it's copyrighted. I can't find anything in the public domain Kowal2701 (talk) 19:09, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Kowal2701 That looks really cool, I really wish we're able to get it on wiki? I couldn't find much from the public domain either. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 22:27, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah agreed, I can use fiver and give it to an African artist for inspiration? Kowal2701 (talk) 22:39, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, that sounds like a good idea! Vanderwaalforces (talk) 22:44, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Cool, I’ll upload it and let you know when it’s done, I can’t post links to fiver here so can’t show you peoples profiles Kowal2701 (talk) 22:46, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, sounds good. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 08:51, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
