Jorson P Fernandes (born 3rd February, 1961) is an ENT Surgeon,the former president of the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP)[1]. He was joined to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2021.[2]He was the Losabha candidate from 2022 to 2024 All India Trinamool Congress Candidate from CUNCOLIM Assembly constituency(SOUTH GOA).

Early Life and Education

He was born and raised in Cuncolim, Goa. His early education took place in local schools, and he later pursued higher education in medicine. He was completed his bachelor of medicine & surgery from University of Mumbai on 18 December 1984. He was completed his diploma on Otorhinolaryngology from the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Bombay on 14 July 2006.

Medical Career

He was served as an ENT Surgeon for several years catering to patients with a wide range of ear, nose and throat conditions.He was a trainer & educator in Goa. He was the chairman of Jr. Red Cross & Youth Red Cross. He was involved in various initiatives aimed at improving the healthcare infrastructure in Goa.[3]

Political Career

He was served as president for nearly 15 years of United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP).[4] During his tenure, he focused on various social and political issues, including industrial pollution, socio-economic development, and the protection of Goa's environment.

In 2021, He resigned from UGDP and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC). This move was supported by his colleagues, who recognized the challenges UGDP faced in terms of logistics and resources. His decision was driven by his desire to continue fighting for the rights and welfare of Goans on a more substantial platform.[5]

He had involved with various organizations, including Rotary Club and Red Cross, and has led numerous projects aimed at community development and humanitarian aid[6]. He was the winners of the COVID Health Care Heroes Award. [7]

  • He was honored with the Outstanding Volunteer Award by the Red Cross
  • He was awarded the Outstanding Junior Chamber International Senator Award by Indian Jaycees.
  • He had received the Health Care Heroes Award at the national level for his remarkable efforts in reaching out to 135,000 people with the Rotary COVID Awareness Program.[7]
