- Comment: BLPs like this needs all statements, controversial or not, to be sourced. A contriversal statement is left unsourced and would be chalkenged should this be moved to mainspace. Toadette (Let's talk together!) 09:49, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
Ken Miyake (三宅 健, Miyake Ken, born 2 February 1979) is a Japanese singer, actor, and television personality born in Kanagawa Prefecture.[1][2]
Former member of group V6 and it's sub group Coming Century of Johnny & Associates, where he remained until 2 May 2023. Miyake became the first artist announced by former Johnny's artist and company president Hideaki Takizawa's new company TOBE on 2 July 2023.[3]
Personal life
editMiyake was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa. He is the oldest of two siblings. There are rumors that he is a twin to a sister, but he has denied it. His younger brother, named Hideaki, was a member of Johnny's Jr. The information about his twin sister was part of a magazine report on his brother.[4][5] His family migrated to Takamatsu, in Kagawa, after his mother separated from his father when he was a young child,[6] returning to his mother's family home.
When Miyake sent his résumé to Johnny's, he was in 2nd grade of junior high school. According to the fandom, the incentive to do it was to help his mother out.[7]
At the time of V6's debut 10th anniversary handshake event in 2005, it is said that Miyake became frustrated because he couldn't answer a young lady that was hearing impaired, so he started learning sign language. He became navigator of NHK-E's "Min'na no shuwa" in April 2014.[8] He also asked for the V6 LIVE TOUR 2015 -SINCE 1995〜FOREVER- DVD to include Japanese subtitles. After that, he became main personality for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2018 Pyeongchang and 2021 Tokyo NHK Olympic and Paralympic programming. He continues working using sing language.[9][10]
He picked up the love of art since he was a child. He became interested in contemporary art since his early teens.[11][12]
He is allergic to buckwheat. Because of that, he would not join other Johnny's artists in the year end program "Johnny's Countdown" dressing room preparation of the traditional Toshikoshi soba, eating yakiniku instead. One time, when he went on location with V6 for a program taping, the staff, who did not know about Miyake's allergies, had prepared Galette, and co-member Hiroshi Nagano advised him against eating them.
Career
editMiyake, who was 14, sent in his résumé in 1993 to Johnny's, at the recommendation of his aunt. Two to three days later he received a call from company president Johnny Kitagawa. He was picked to participate behind Masahiro Nakai, who was to sing a ballad in a SMAP concert. Kitagawa had told Miyake he was to be on visuals, and was exempted from dancing. The same day of the concert, he also was part of a photoshoot for a magazine.[13] As part of Johnny's Jr., he was paired with Go Morita, in what was called "Goken Combination".[14]
On 4 September 1995, he was made a member of the V6 band, as the Volleyball World Cup's first official cheering group (he was 16). He began working with the younger members, who were called "Coming Century". V6 debuted on 1 November 1995 with the single Music for the people.
His first appearance on stage, was in 2000, in 二万七千光年の旅 -世紀末の少年- (Nimannanasen kōnen no tabi - seikimatsu no shōnen -).[15]
In 2003, Miyake participated in Coming Century's first movie, Cosmic Rescue. His first movie solo was in 2006, in 親指さがし (Oyayubisagashi).
Miyake's radio was his first radio program, started in April 2005.[16]
He worked with Takizawa on 2016 on "Takizawa's Kabuki". and formed a duo with him, KEN☆Tackey, debuting with the single "Gyakuten Lovers" on 18 July. The duo remained active until 2018, when Takizawa retired as an artist.[17][18]
On 1 November 2021, V6 and it's sub group Coming Century disbanded. The following day, Miyake started his solo career by opening an Instagram account and personal fan club.[19] He announced on 25 July 2022 he would release on 5 October NEWWW, a mini album. The same day he opened a Twitter account.
On 20 February 2023, Miyake announced he was leaving Johnny and Associates 2 May.[20] On the day when he was to leave, he made his last blog update in Johnny's Web with a message for his fans.[21]
