Kobey Layne (born 1999/2000)[1] is a Minnesotan politician. She is the first transgender woman to run for a statewide office in Minnesota.
Layne was raised in Walker, Minnesota. Layne was initially a Republican. She was inspired to pursue politics after participating in a petition to block road construction that would have cut Walker off of the tourist money the town's economy relied on.[2]
Layne then attended Hamline University, earning a master's degree in public policy. Layne then worked as an aide for Jim Abeler, and switched parties to the DFL.
Layne is current running in the 2026 Minnesota gubernatorial election. She is running on affordability, environmentalism, and anti-corruption.[3] She was nominated for the DFL endorsement, and received 27% of the vote, losing to Amy Klobuchar.[4]
