Matt Howes, also known professionally as DJ Matt Howes, is a British DJ. He appeared on BBC Radio 1Xtra as part of the station's 1Xtra Talent programming.[1]
Yahoo News profiled Howes in 2013 in an article describing him as the world's only professional one-armed DJ.[2]
Pioneer DJ later featured Howes performing across four CDJ-2000s after losing his right arm in 2011.[3]
In 2024, he performed during the opening parade at The National Lottery's ParalympicsGB Homecoming at Birmingham's Utilita Arena.[4]
Career
[edit]Howes was living in Crete and working as a DJ when he lost his arm in an accident in 2011. Empower magazine reported that, two weeks after the accident, he returned to DJing and performed to a crowd of around 1,000 people.[5]
Following the accident, Howes received wider media coverage. Yahoo News profiled him in 2013 in an article titled "Mixing it with the best: meet the Brit who's world's only professional one-armed DJ".[2]
Howes appeared on BBC Radio 1Xtra as part of its 1Xtra Talent programming.[1] Around the same period, Topman described Howes as British rapper Devlin's tour DJ in a mix released through Topman Generation.[6]
Howes has also performed internationally. In January 2014, Mauritian newspaper L'Express listed DJ Matt Howes of England among the DJs performing at an event in Grand-Baie, Mauritius.[7]
Howes was later the subject of Scratch, a student documentary that won the factual prize at the Royal Television Society Yorkshire Student Awards. The Royal Television Society described the documentary as telling the story of Howes as a club DJ who lost his arm in a moped accident.[8]
In 2017, Pioneer DJ featured Howes in its DJsounds Show, noting that he performed across four CDJ-2000s after losing his right arm in 2011.[3]
Charity and Paralympic work
[edit]In 2014, Empower magazine reported that Howes had been announced as Goodwill Ambassador for the Limbless Association.[5]
Howes has also worked with Reach Charity. In 2015, Reach's Within Reach magazine referred to him as a Reach ambassador and reported that he performed at the charity's Family Weekend.[9]
In 2024, Howes performed during the opening parade at The National Lottery's ParalympicsGB Homecoming at Birmingham's Utilita Arena as the athletes entered the arena.[4]
