Nitin Kapur.[1] FRACP MD PhD is a paediatric respiratory and sleep physician at the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane,.[1] Australia, and President of the Paediatric and Child Health Division of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians[2]
Personal life
editKapur is of Indian descent and grew up in Delhi, India where he attended medical school at the Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi.[3]
Career
editKapur pursued respiratory and sleep medicine after being awarded a Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship which led to his move to University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.[4] He then moved to Brisbane under the Endeavour Asia Awards, where he did his Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Training at the Royal Children’s Hospital[5] and completed a PhD from the Charles Darwin University.[6]
In 2022, Kapur became Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland.[7] He is currently the Director of Clinical Training and the Director of Paediatric Education[8] at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.[9] His clinical and research interests include Cystic Fibrosis, bronchial asthma, pre-school wheeze, chronic cough, paediatric sleep disorders and bronchiectasis, in which he has a PhD.[6]
He is the current President of the Paediatric and Child Health Division of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.[10] In this role, Kapur leads campaigns in Australia and New Zealand to raise the age of criminal responsibility and limit exposure of children to junk food advertising, and the Kids Catch up campaign.[2]
