Petru Cotarcea is a British-Romanian classical violinist and entrepreneur. Noted for his contributions to both music and business, Cotarcea was recognized by Forbes magazine in their '30 Under 30' Europe list for Social Impact.[1]
Early life
editBorn in Bucharest, Romania, Cotarcea has started playing the violin aged 5. Studying at the George Enescu College of Music in Bucharest and Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, he then went on to pursue his higher education at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Lycaeum and the Music Bus
editPetru started a music teaching company Lycaeum Music in 2017, which has taught over 9000 children in London to date.[2] As part of this endeavour he has refurbished an old double decker bus and used it to offer lessons to children across the city[3]
A documentary about this project is currently in post-production.[4] It covers the inception of the idea[5][6][7] and the refurbishment of the old bus, while leaning deeper into Petru's life story, from his life as a child in Bucharest, to his work in London and the UK.
