Quantum Fantay is a Belgian space rock band from Lokeren, formed in 2002. The band is one of the leading representatives of Belgian progressive rock, alongside artists such as Alucard, Panopticum, and Karma Depth. Keyboardist Pieter van den Broeck and bassist Wouter De Geest are the foundation of Quantum Fantay. They were also part of the bands Oregon and Ghiribizzi. Infectious rhythms, soaring guitar music, and floating flute melodies are the ingredients of their progressive space rock.
In 2002, the band released their demo, Demonstration. Two years later, in May 2004, their debut album Agapanthusterra was released and warmly received by European critics. Agapanthusterra features varied instrumental space rock with influences from Marillion, Ozric Tentacles, Jean-Michel Jarre, Hawkwind, and even Dream Theater. Dario Frodo's guitar solos, as heard in "Chase the Dragon" and "Lantanasch," are reminiscent of Ozric Tentacles. The track "Niek Shlut" also appeared on A Taste Of Belgium, a compilation exclusively featuring Belgian progressive rock.
The song "Trip Escape" was frequently played on Classic 21. Marc Ysaye of Classic 21 called it one of the best Belgian music productions of 2004. The band gained some international recognition with their debut, especially in Germany, where they performed on the main stage of the Burg Herzberg Festival. Quantum Fantay has also played at festivals in the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Great Britain, and Poland.
On December 10 and 17, 2006, Quantum Fantay performed at the Spirit Of 66 in Verviers alongside other prog rock bands.
In February 2007, Quantum Fantay released their second studio album, Ugisiunsi. On July 19, 2007, the quintet played at the Burg Herzberg Festival in Germany, where a double live album was recorded.
In 2009, their third studio album, Kaleidothrope, was released, and the band performed at NEARfest in the United States, sharing the lineup with Uriah Heep, Pain of Salvation, and Opeth. They also performed with Threshold.
On October 8, 2010, their fourth album, Bridges of Kukuriku, was released. In 2011, the band embarked on an extensive live tour to promote the album.
