Naoi Rei (Japanese: 直井 怜), born February 3, 2004, mononymously known as Rei (Korean레이; Japanese: レイ), is a Japanese rapper and singer based in South Korea. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Ive, under Starship Entertainment.

Early Life

Rei was born on February 3, 2004, in Japan.[1][2] In 2018, Rei joined Starship Entertainment after passing at the Loen Friends Global Audition in Japan. Rei's audition caught the judges' attention with her distinct voice. In May of that year, she came to Korea and started training until she made her debut in 2021 with Ive.[3][4]

On November 6, 2021, Starship Entertainment revealed Rei as one of the six members of their new girl group, Ive. Rei was the fifth member to be introduced as the group's rapper and vocalist.[2] On December 1, 2021, Rei officially debuted as a member of Ive with the release of their single album, Eleven, led by the single of the same name.[5][6] On February 10, 2022, Rei officially graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA).[7] On April 5, 2022, Ive released their second single album, Love Dive, on which Rei participated in writing the track called, "Royal".[8]

On August 22, 2022, Ive released their third single album, After Like, led by the lead single of the same name.[9] The lead single samples the iconic hit "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor,[10] on which Rei also participated in writing their lead single "After Like".[11] On April 10, 2023, Ive released their first studio album, I've Ive, Rei also has been credited and participated in writing four tracks in their album, namely in the songs "Kitsch", "Hypnosis", "Not Your Girl", and "Next Page".[12]

On March 2022, Rei was selected as the model for Bonajour, a natural and vegan cosmetics brand.[13] On September 5, 2022, Rei was selected as the new model for the sports casual brand, FCMM.[14] On the same month, Rei was selected as the new muse for makeup brand, Peach C.[15]
