The Shimmering Sky is a historical novel by Rik Denton about Eleanor, Fair Maid of Brittany.
The novel plot begins from 1215 upon First Barons' War. Eleanor had a complex attitude on her uncle King John of England, who presumably murdered her younger brother Arthur I, Duke of Brittany and kept her imprisoned from 1202 but also treated her due a princess honorably and generously. She believed that as the legitimate heiress to England she could become a peaceful queen regnant as the state needed. The novel describes her attempts to have herself involved in the negotiations with barons and the French, in which occasions she would express her views on her king uncles Richard I of England and John; in the process, she also developed affections with a squire.
