Music video

The song is picturized upon Ranbir Kapoor, the lead actor of the film. The song is an artistic expression of love. The video shows Ranbir Raj Malhotra (Ranbir Kapoor) dancing with a towel wrapped around his waist and singing about how his eyes met Sakina's (Sonam Kapoor). The scene became so popular that it became a memorable scene from his debut film Saawariya. According to Film Companion, "CBFC asked the makers of the film to remove the full display of Ranbir's backside."[3] When Ranbir was interviewed by the film critic Anupama Chopra, he revealed that for the song, he gave close to 100 takes.[4]

Critical reception

edit

Upon the release of the song, it gained lots of appreciation for its music by critics and listeners alike. Joginder Tuteja of Bollywood Hungama said that the song is a "love song that has a serene feel to it." Later, he said that the song is nice "but don't quite qualify as chartbuster".[5] Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com also liked the song and said, "Shaan dreams up a world of bewitchment in the delicately crafted Jab Se Tera Naina -- a rousing and resplendent celebration of the universal slogan 'crazy little thing called love'"[6] A reviewer at webindia123 described the song as "high on romance" and further said that the song is "like an appropriate Sanjay Leela Bhansali song. Sung by Shaan, who usually does justice to romantic numbers, the music of 'Jab se...' is a good effort."[7]

Accolades

edit

"Jab Se Tere Naina" won two awards. At the 53rd ceremony of India's Filmfare Awards, the song won the Best Male Playback Singer award for Shaan.[8] The song also won at the 9th ceremony of India's IIFA AwardsBest Male Playback Singer for Shaan.[9]
