History

edit

The origins of the lake date back to the 14th century when it was built by the Bundi Prince Dehra Deh.[1] However, it was in the 18th century during the reign of Maha Rao Kishore Singh, the ruler of Kota, that the lake underwent refurbishment and expansion. This renovation was aimed at addressing the city's water needs while enhancing its aesthetic appeal.[3]

Design and architecture

edit

The lake exemplifies traditional Rajput architecture, characterized by its ornate stone embankments and intricately carved marble cenotaphs known as 'chhatris.' The chhatris are dedicated to various figures including Bundi's Prince Dehra Deh.[4]

edit

Over the centuries, the lake has evolved into a cultural hub, playing host to numerous festivals, events, and religious ceremonies.[5]

edit

In this lake, along with boating, a double Decker cruise is also available for the tourists as well as locals.[6][7]
