Labs Companies, Inc., branded as Labs, is an American artificial intelligence company headquartered in Santa Monica, California.[3] It operates as the holding company for a group of specialized technology research laboratories, including Labsintelligence, its first core laboratory, which serves as the center of its artificial-intelligence research and develops action and orchestration-focused foundation models and intelligent agents.[4]
Overview
[edit source]Labs Companies was established in 2025 through a restructuring of LavLabs, a startup studio established in 2018.[5] Labs became the parent holding company, while LavLabs continued as one of its seven core operating laboratories and is designated by the company as lab6.[6] The company describes human enhancement as the wider purpose of its work and organizes research and product development across seven core laboratories.[7] Its products include LabsAI, the LabsAI Studio interface and the planned consumer application Yuhmmy. It describes its research as focused on artificial-intelligence systems that perceive, reason, coordinate and act.[8] Its two principal research areas are speech-to-action, which concerns translating spoken intent into actions on a live interface, and orchestration intelligence also called speech-to-orchestration which concerns assigning and coordinating work among AI systems under real-time constraints.[9]
The laboratory's publications describe two model families: Actras, intended to convert speech and world state into actions, and Octras, intended to convert objectives and resources into orchestration policies.[10] The same research program defines AI Orchs as executable coordination objects; the Interactive Programming Interface (IPI) for AI systems that act; the Orchestration Programming Interface (OPI) for AI systems that coordinate; and the Parallel Agent Protocol (PAP) for communication between AI agents.[11] The lab presents these components, together with agentic file formats,[12] runtime-governance mechanisms and the Interactive Intelligence Benchmark, as the foundation of an action-centered and orchestration-centered AI stack.[13]
