To provide a help link to explain the page, please modify this page to read:
Search for [[Help:User contributions|contributions]]
The above inserts a help link, which is visible when viewing a user's Special:Contributions page. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 18:36, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- While on the surface this seems like a fine idea, I'm not really sure a blue link in that exact spot would be a good thing. Anyone else care to comment? — Huntster (t • @ • c) 09:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I had thought such a link wouldn't be controversial, otherwise I would've just posted a RfC rather than an EditProtected tag - but since it's already here, I'll leave the current tag.
- Just a comment to justify the reason for the request: The link would provide easier access to "help" material for users who are new or unfamiliar with the layout of the "My Contributions" page. The origins of this request come from a question that had been posted on the Help Desk on 25 September 2008. I do strongly feel that such a link would be beneficial on the page, although if others feel that this particular location is not the best place for such a link, then I could propose it at MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer instead of here. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 14:46, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Done, considering there have been no comments for a couple of days. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 07:36, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Im sorry to bring you some bad news but the link on user contribs appears as it is above, it does not "pipe" to just show contributions. Was it supposed to be this way? Doesn't look good 211.30.111.105 (talk) 08:16, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hah, interesting behaviour. I wonder why it is that way. In any case, reverted, back to normal. Thanks for the heads up. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 08:27, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- That is odd behavior, and disappointing. I guess the programmers never thought to fully implement wiki-markup in that area. It appears then that the footer is the only available placement on that screen. I'll start a discussion about adding it to MediaWiki talk:Sp-contributions-footer. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 14:39, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- So what did you guys see? If MediaWiki doesn't parse that text then we perhaps can add the full HTML code for the link instead.

- Not sure, worth a try, but I have to wonder whether it is rendering as plain text, and is un-formattable. — Huntster (t • @ • c) 02:33, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Done - Sort of. A week after this discussion we added this to MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-explain instead, and made so it appears in the upper right corner of the Special:Contributions pages.
