This is a list of National Natural Landmarks in the U.S. state of Colorado.
There are 16 National Natural Landmarks in Colorado, one of which extends into Wyoming. They cover areas of geological, biological and historical importance, and include lakes, mountains, rock formations and numerous fossil sites. The landmarks are located in 14 of the state's 64 counties. Four counties each contain all or part of two NNLs, while two landmarks are split between two counties. The first two designations, Slumgullion Earthflow and Summit Lake, were made in 1965, while the most recent designation, Sulphur Cave and Spring, was made in 2021. Natural Landmarks in Colorado range from 60 to 380,000 acres (24.3 to 153,780.5 ha; 0.1 to 593.8 sq mi) in size. Owners include private individuals and several municipal, state and federal agencies. Malcolm Scott Carpenter (May 1, 1925 – October 10, 2013) was an American naval officer and aviator, test pilot, aeronautical engineer, astronaut and aquanaut. He was one of the Mercury Seven astronauts selected for NASA's Project Mercury in April 1959. Carpenter was the second American (after John Glenn) to orbit the Earth and the fourth American in space, after Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom and Glenn.
Commissioned into the U.S. Navy in 1949, Carpenter became a naval aviator, flying a Lockheed P-2 Neptune with Patrol Squadron 6 (VP-6) on reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare missions along the coasts of Soviet Union and China during the Korean War and the Cold War. In 1954, he attended the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, and became a test pilot. In 1958, he was named Air Intelligence Officer of USS Hornet, which was then in dry dock at the Bremerton Navy Yard. (Full article...)Selected image -

- Las Animas County, Colorado's most extensive county, is more than 4.56 times the size of Rhode Island, 2.44 times the size of Delaware, and 98% the size of Connecticut.
- The Colorado Organic Act of 1861 defined Colorado as an ellipsoidal rectangle bound by the parallels 37°N and 41°N latitude and the meridians 25°W and 32°W longitude from the Washington Meridian.
- 160 years of subsequent government land surveys redefined the state boundaries as a ellipsoidal polygon of 697 sides.
- The southwestern corner monument of the Territory of Colorado later became the common boundary point of the U.S. states of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah known as the Four Corners.
- Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah are the only three U.S. states with no natural boundaries.
- Although Colorado and Wyoming have the same shape and both measure four degrees of latitude by seven degrees of longitude, Colorado is 6.42% more extensive than Wyoming because it lies closer to the equator.
- Gilpin County and Clear Creek County are the only two Colorado counties to retain their original 1861 boundaries.
- All 21 of the highest U.S. counties by mean elevation are in Colorado.
- Jefferson County borders ten other Colorado counties.
