Company of the week

edit

Was just seeing this portal and noticed that Wal-Mart has been "Company of the week" since August. It is now February, and probably about time Portal:Companies/Selected article got changed or something. Tuxide (talk) of WikiProject Retailing 09:50, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think Company of the week is sustainable. Perhaps, "Selected article" would be a more useful title for the box. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 11:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could someone who knows how to do these things tastefully please add Portal:Cooperatives to Portal:Companies/Related portals (which is displayed at the bottom of the portal.) --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 11:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Revamp of portal?

edit

I've been testing out some ideas for revamping the portal to bring it more in line with the other portals (in terms of both look and content) on Wikipedia. Using the basic portal templates and layouts used on Portal:Africa and Portal:Energy, I've mocked an example up in my sandbox. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/criticisms about either the style or what should and shouldn't be included? Gr1st (talk) 14:14, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adding a new company

edit

how do i add my company lastpit.com to this page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lastpit (talkcontribs) 05:05, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I responded at User talk:Lastpit. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 10:36, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would like Samsung C&T Corporation to be added on your list. The company is listed on only one stock market: Korea Exchange; however, it has a profile uploaded on Hoover's. I hope this meets your criteria for putting up a new company on the list and more people will be able to join the page for Samsung C&T and improve the article.Kymagnus (talk) 19:57, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

My name is Stuart Gordon, and I am the Production and Communications Manager for Life Healthcare Communications The Hernes Oak North Street Winkfield Windsor SL4 4SY UK

I would like to create a page for my company because there is a company with almost the same name already on Wikipedia and there might be confusion.

Life Healthcare Communications is the second largest independent healthcare agency in the UK.

The page for the other Life Healthcare is here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LIFE_Healthcare_Group — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stuartgordon70 (talkcontribs) 15:11, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

@Stuartgordon70: I can work on it. Did some initial digging and found less resource material. That might be due to only cursory look. Do connect with me via email / talk page should you be interested. Devopam (talk) 05:29, 21 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Adding logos

edit

There should be a task box for companies and organizations that don't have logos. I've been doing a lot lately! ThaiTee (talk) 04:01, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

The article on Teleprompter Cable Television states the company "tried to bribe Johnstown City Council" in the early 1970s. I thought it was 1969 or 1970. Actually, I recall that Johnstown mayor, GOP Kenneth O. Tompkins (check spelling of last name), was bribed approximately $14,000 to keep rival Warner Cable out of the area for a considerable period of time. He was caught, convicted, served time and, I think, died not many years later. It was a big deal here, made national headlines, and was reputedly the first --or first MAJ OR — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.203.217.103 (talk) 01:27, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Status report from the Portals WikiProject

Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018.

Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, and design the portals of the future.

As of April 29th, membership is at 56 editors, and growing.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for each component of portals.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

Portal upgraded and updated

edit

I have significantly upgraded the portal, which now has separate FA and GA article sections, a Featured picture section, a new Selected article section and the separate Selected companies section, all of which have been expanded with more content. The Selected companies section, which has been in place for quite some time, has been further expanded to include entries for major companies from various areas of the world, as well as other various companies. The articles are now displayed using transclusions of content directly on the main portal page, the process of which keeps the content up-to-date relative to the content that is presented in articles. Of course, more articles can be added to further expand the portal, and other work can also be performed to further upgrade it. North America1000 15:23, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

No Consensus to Delete - Proposed Action

edit

This portal was recently nominated for deletion, and the MFD was closed on 28 August 2019 as No Consensus. The following points were noted either by the Keep editors or by the closer:

  1. This portal is not yet listed as having a maintainer, although improvements were made. There should be at least one actual maintainer, and there should be periodic evidence of maintenance.

If there is no evidence of a maintainer or no evidence of maintenance, there is likely to be another MFD in two months.

Some of the Delete editors noted that there were no articles on business in general or business law. While these are out of the current scope of this portal, which is Portal:Companies and not Portal:Business, information articles would be a good addition.

If there is really a desire to demonstrate that portals in general can be improved, here are a few suggestions for design improvement:

  1. Use categories of companies to select companies.

  • Additional articles for the portal can be considered from those available in the table below.

2020 portal updates

edit

The portal now uses transclusion templates to provide content, which displays verbatim content to that in articles, providing readers with up-to-date content. A consensus approving the usage of transclusion templates in portals was formed at this Village Pump discussion, which was closed on 28 December 2019 (UTC).

Below are lists of articles presently being used on the main portal page.

Some of the articles listed below were added to the main portal page today (diff). North America1000 14:56, 4 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

General question about the Portal:companies template

edit

I just noticed the Portal:companies template at the bottom of an article I was editing. Are there any guidelines for when to include it? I don't see it very often. Is the goal to have it at the bottom of every company article? TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 01:56, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is there a list / article / collation of sources like this that I've started?

edit

See User:Ceyockey/Sources with utility in improving company articles. If there is something already existing, I'd like to refer to and improve that rather than starting from scratch. Thanks. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:09, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
