It was established by the Ministry of Defence (GOI) on 12 October 2003 at Nalanda. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and is a member of the Indian Public Schools' Conference (IPSC).

Alumni
editOver the last 13 years,[when?] Sainik School Nalanda has sent students to the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla. Over 125 cadets have become officers in the Indian Armed Forces and are serving on various fronts.
