Films missing directors

edit

Just a quick post to note that a few films in the Programme section of this article are missing the names of their directors. The problem was that the most comprehensive source available for compiling the complete festival program listed only the film titles, and not the directors — this wasn't a problem for most films, because either (a) it was already obvious what film was meant (e.g. nobody doesn't know who directed Annie Hall), (b) another source (such as a film review by Jay Scott) could be located around the same time to offer alternate verification, or (c) a quick Google search plainly verified that a film of the correct title was released within the correct time frame to screen at the 1981 Festival of Festivals. But for a select few films, either more than one film fit the title with no other way to determine which one actually screened at TIFF, or I was unable to locate any film of the specified title that would have existed in 1981 (most likely meaning that the title that was listed at FOF 1981 is not the one the film is actually best known by in the real world.) In the long term, fixing this will probably entail a trip to TIFF's Film Reference Library to see if they have a copy of the actual 1981 catalogue, but as of April 2021 that isn't possible because Miss Corona's still shuttin' it all down.
