Sao Tome and Principe

edit

What is the source for the 21 February 2010 date of this election? According to my unofficial communication with USG sources, as of last week, this date has not been set by the government. Jack (talk) 19:35, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

sub-national elections

edit

I recently added to the list the Kirkuk status and Iraqi Kurdistan constitutional referendums and they were removed, because the list at Electoral calendar is for national elections/referendums only [sorry, but I haven't read the introduction: "This electoral calendar 2010 lists the national/federal direct elections held in 2010 in the de jure and de facto sovereign states and their dependent territories. Referendums are included; it should be noted that they are not elections, however. By-elections are not included."]

It seems that this does not include local elections (even if hold nationwide) and other sub-national elections (like these that I added). I don't know about Bonaire and Wales referendums - they are included. Anyway, I think that it would be nice to expand the scope - maybe in a separate section about sub-national elections? (yes, I know we won't be able to list them all, but at least to put these that have wikipedia articles...) Alinor (talk) 11:34, 8 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bonaire is sort of in-between, I think. Wales shouldn't be here, yeah. —Nightstallion 00:02, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

'Later'

edit

Mind you, there should be swiss federal elections in 2011, cfhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_federal_election,_2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.69.33.93 (talk) 12:27, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Madagascar elections will surely be postponed ,since the referendum was indefinitely postponed and elections must follow it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.87.137.14 (talk) 14:47, 4 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposal

edit

Toadd a new feature. For the completed election a notation of the outcome by the side in paranthesis or some other way would be nice. What do others think?Lihaas (talk) 05:36, 20 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

What about a table? That way further details could be added. Nightw 12:45, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Move to 2011 or later the following undated elections

edit

Côte d'Ivoire, Parliament Croatia, Labour law referendum Faroe Islands, Constitutional referendum Guinea, Parliament Iraq, Status of Forces Agreement referendum Sudan, Darfur amalgamation referendum United Arab Emirates, Parliament

None of these elections will be held in 2010 for sure. The Iraq Status of Forces referendum has been cancelled for good. Only the Iraq indirect presidential election has still a chance to be held later in 2010 if a new government is formed in the coming weeks.58.9.63.99 (talk) 15:52, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

localnational election compromise

edit

per the compromise to split for convenience was agreed to be 2011 and beyond, since we dont have it yet the presumptionw as (ince only 2 months are left) that this would stay and the next would be split. there are some sub-national polls lft in 2010. per this (and add this Taguig local elections, 2010, adn US midterms and greece november 7).Lihaas (talk) 10:13, 26 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, consensus cant wait forever. I've posted it.Lihaas (talk) 12:37, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Do you know how many local government elections there are? This would make the page unweildy, and inaccurate unless all can be listed. Nightw 15:20, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
This is only for the year, then theres the split. And so far we only have a couple. If it bring it to unsightly size then WP:Consensus can change again.
At any rate you said "maybe take your own advice." 1. I was entirely civil, 2. i did come to talk and waited for a week yet you refused to discuss this even though you still edited on the page. Consensus cant wait forever, and the onus is now on you to get change. Consensus doesnt work just because you dont like something. You do not have WP:Ownership of the page.Lihaas (talk) 20:30, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I haven't edited on this page, bar the revert of your edit conflict. Are you confusing me with Nightstallion (talk · contribs)? Nightw 12:19, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

You're free to create a Local electoral calendar 2010 page and list those there...? —Nightstallion 18:14, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Later elections

edit

This list of "later" elections can be moved to the 2011 Electoral calendar already, since none of which will be held this year. 58.9.101.182 (talk) 12:33, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

partially   Done, some still say "2010"(Lihaas (talk) 18:46, 9 November 2010 (UTC)).Reply

national vs. local

edit

come on, first we want to put only national then move local elections that are not de fact or de jure states by any recognition? now that the page is split we have less reason to be picky and pov. the american samoa, guam, usvi, and cook islands are not recognised as sovereign by anyone.Lihaas (talk) 22:36, 10 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Read the lead: "...elections held in 2010 in all sovereign states and their dependent territories..." If you want to change that, discuss it here. Although first, do your homework, perhaps? The Cook Islands are recognised as a sovereign state by many states (including Belgium, and New Zealand), and there is ongoing discussion about where to add it in the List of sovereign states. American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are unincorporated dependent territories, which means they form separate legislative jurisdictions from the United States. Their citizens don't vote in U.S. presidential elections. The entries we list here are their highest level of elections. Nightw 13:14, 11 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Okay, the cook islands seems wrong. I was doubtful on that. but the old comment about dependencies was bfore the splt off page. theyre nto "national" now that we do have local. that would also open up a whole new can of worms. They're not national by any stretch. Lihaas (talk) 22:32, 12 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. Separate electoral jurisdictions. Nightw 14:22, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just ot note - I have opened similar discussion here. Alinor (talk) 06:58, 19 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

What? "seperate electoral jurisdictions" is the only comment to discussion? What quantifies them as "national" sovereinty would generally be the case.
Anyways, see Alinors topic.(Lihaas (talk) 17:12, 27 December 2010 (UTC)).Reply
The agreement with country-specific lists is that we use the ISO list. This list is no different. Stick with the consensus. Nightw 10:19, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
WP:Consensus can change where is this agreement? There is also a concurrent ongoing discussion as mentioned above on the STATES to represent "national" elections. You could contribute to that. (info is also duplicated here) (Lihaas (talk) 14:52, 28 December 2010 (UTC)).Reply
  • Discussion still ongoing, so please don't remove any information till discusion will be finished. As I see in the headline „This national electoral calendar for the year 2010 lists the national/federal direct elections held in 2010 in all sovereign states and their dependent territories.” According to US government [1] and other reliable sources American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are dependent territories. So, no any reason to move this information to Local electoral calendar 2010. Aotearoa (talk) 09:24, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) Yes, consensus can change, but you haven't managed that yet, so please stop repeating your disruptive edits. Nightw 09:32, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
That was from the previous copy past before national and local were split off. How do "dependent territories" qualify as sovereing. See the discussion Alinor created to consolidate in one place.
WP:BRD EXPLICITY = bold addition when reverted need discussion to be added back.(Lihaas (talk) 17:24, 30 December 2010 (UTC)).Reply
"Sovereing"? The word is "national", which doesn't restrict entries by sovereignty. Nightw 17:33, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
then why a seperate national v. local calendar if nothing is restricted by sovereingty.
also that woudl be emean wales, scotland and a whol new can of worms.(Lihaas (talk) 18:26, 30 December 2010 (UTC)).Reply

They don't have separate ISO codes, which is the convention we use on Wikipedia when making lists by country. Nightw 08:01, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
