Article Name

edit

The name of this article could become confusing in the future if further shipwreck occur (unlikely, yes) and at present does appear a little lengthy. Would naming the article after the location of the shipwreck be satisfactory? Thank you for your time, Intheeventofstructuralfailure (talk) 08:15, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I named it based on an existing article, the 2009 Mediterranean Sea migrant shipwreck. I think you're right, if there's another article on a Med shipwreck this year then we'll need to cater for it. I think at the moment we don't really have a major issue. But I'm not too upset either way. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:17, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Didn't the boat have a name? Shouldn't it be named after the boat, rather than the location or time? The 1912 Atlantic sinking doesn't really come to mind, but the Titanic does. At least name the boat and origin.--74.107.74.39 (talk) 00:13, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

There are other examples of namings with more precision and which link the event to the nearest locality, such as May 2007 Malta migrant shipwreck and September 2006 Karaburun, Turkey migrant incident. It could be a good idea to rename "April 2011 Lampedusa Island migrant shipwreck" for example. There are also quite a few fitting images across the net with the island's migrants issue, such as this one. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/21/lampedusa-migrant-italy. I will try to pick and upload one under fair use. Cretanforever (talk) 16:26, 16 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
As I said, I'm not too worried what this gets moved to, as long as it's useful. 2011 Lampedusa migrant shipwreck would be my preference if we had to move it. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:19, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK. I'll move it to April 2011 Lampedusa Island migrant shipwreck on the -purely theoretical- potentiality (contingency) of a similar event during 2011. The months of events have been mentioned in other articles of this category. It could also be useful to check each time in which cases one may squarely refer to a "shipwreck", and in which cases not. There was no "shipwreck" traced and this was, in a sense, the whole point, properly speaking, for May 2007 Malta migrant shipwreck and September 2006 Karaburun, Turkey migrant incident. Therefore, sometimes it will be more tenable to say 'it was an "incident"'. Cretanforever (talk) 10:05, 21 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't think April is needed right now in the title. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:23, 21 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

A new disaster just occurred. "April" definitely needs to be put in the title. --Una giornata uggiosa '94 · So, what do you want to talk about? 07:58, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
