Seats for electioneditWhat is meant by "to be determined by the Election Commission" in the infobox field "seats up for election"? Shouldn't it be "all 222 seats of to the Dewan Rakyat"? Lockesdonkey (talk) 21:47, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Manifestos
editManifesto tables should be split into Barisan and Pakatan Rakyat columns side by side for easier reading.124.185.54.106 (talk) 23:28, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- This would not aid comparison as they are of differing lengths, different sections are also not comparable (e.g.
nothingfew items in BN's manifesto compares to PR's section on Fraternity of the people)Obersttseu (talk) 00:36, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Moved the manifestos links to the bottom of the page as per other election articles. Don't need to put the links at the same section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.62.77.26 (talk) 04:52, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed but not under WP:SEEALSO. Replaced with External Links instead. Obersttseu (talk) 05:01, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Results template
editI've hidden the results template, but rest assured that the code is still in the page, please unhide it when the results are released. Obersttseu (talk) 02:37, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Somebody keeps removing the hidden tags, can we please leave the table out until the results are out? It doesn't do anyone good to show all the zeroes now.Obersttseu (talk) 00:30, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Election Issues and Manifestos
editSome of the promises made are already reflected in the Manifestos section. The list of promises in the national PR manifesto is already complete, it would be redundant to repeat them in the Election Issues section unless there is additional info (eg. the support of Himpunan Hijau for LYNAS's closure can stay)Obersttseu (talk) 03:23, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
The manifestos don't need to be placed in its entirety in one section. They can be viewed through the external links section, plus they don't have the links to other Malaysia-wiki articles.121.223.83.171 (talk) 01:01, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- I haven't had the time to add the wikilinks required. I'll try to do so after I finish the points in the BN manifesto. I would still like to compile all the points in the national manifestos in one section. That way whoever forms the next government we can gauge their performance 5 years later.Obersttseu (talk) 01:11, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Controversy
edit[1](Lihaas (talk) 21:56, 1 May 2013 (UTC)).
Blackouts at certain polling stations and so-called magical votes resulting outcomes being overturned can be quite heaty but should be included under this section, provided if references from media are present. LCheongYu (talk) 16:22, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Reactions
editThere have been a protest in Facebook where Malaysians change their profile pictures to black to protest the irregularities during the General Elections, namely the surprise power blackouts in the polling station and the sudden discovery of additional votes after the blackouts. Awaiting the media to pick this up so that it can be properly referenced.

editOK, Rizalninoynapoleon added the NPOV tag at the top of the article but didn't include any explanation in the talk section. Suggestions are welcome for which section has NPOV issues for improvement.Obersttseu (talk) 17:06, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Dear all, in all fairness, the sentence "The oppositional parties had promised to revise Malaysia's affirmative action policy which favours Malays and other indigenous groups ("Bhumiputra") over the Chinese and Indian minorities.[128]" is factually unreliable and misleading.
1) It is factually inaccurate because, according to the reference provided, the claim was made not made by anyone from the opposition, rather it is said by the ruling party member, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
2) Misleading because the said sentence appears after this sentence: Herizal Hazri of the Malaysia Asia Foundation said: "There is a sense of rejection within the urban Malaysian voters to accept this rhetoric. They want a more inclusive Malaysia, they want to vote for parties that represents all race groups."[127] This might confuse reader of understanding the said sentence as part of his comment.
Finally, I would propose to modify the essay with: Herizal Hazri of the Malaysia Asia Foundation said: "There is a sense of rejection within the urban Malaysian voters to accept this rhetoric. They want a more inclusive Malaysia, they want to vote for parties that represents all race groups."[127] Najib Razak, the ruling party leader claims the opposition parties had promised to revise Malaysia's affirmative action policy which favours Malays and other indigenous groups ("Bhumiputra") over the Chinese and Indian minorities as the reason why ethnic Chinese voted for the opposition.[128]" However, the claim is refuted by by political analyst Datuk Dr Shamsul Amri Baharuddin, who claims it was more accurately, an urban swing. Isn't PR 23 seats short, not 12?
editthe coalition failed for the second successive time to form the government with short of 12 seats Correct me if I am wrong here, but shouldn't that be (133-89+1)/2 = 45/2 => 23 seats?!?! If PR got 23 more seats to have 112, and BN lost 23 to have 110, THEN the PR would have won the election. So, they are "23 seats short", not "with short of 12 seats". I would correct the page, but I am concerned, as a foreigner, that I am missing some important point here. 2001:44B8:41CD:3800:98C8:5C2B:E904:5F0E (talk) 04:41, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
PPBM is not part of Pakatan Harapan
editMalaysian United Indigenous Party (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) is not a part of the Pakatan Harapan but has an electoral pact with them to contest the general election on one to one contests against Barisan Nasional. Unless there is a reference that says they have joined PH, we should not include them as part of PH.Lazybugger13 (talk) 03:28, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

I'll review this. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:30, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
I'll copyedit as I go through; please revert if I make a mess of anything. It might take me a day or two to complete the review.
- There are numerous dead links: see here.
- Why is there information about the state elections in this article? This information is presumably either in or should be in Malaysian state elections, 2013, so I'm not clear why we would need it here.
- Not necessary for GA, but I'd recommend moving the enormous list of state level results of the general election into a separate list article. I'm glad you've collapsed it, but it's really more detail than this article needs.
- The lead should include more background about the prior political situation and the run up to the election. Take a look at Canadian federal election, 1957 for a high quality election article; the lead has a few words about the incumbent government and the political situation, the mood of the country, the political issues of the day, and the parties' electoral strategies. This article has very little comparable material in the lead.
- The background section similarly has very little about the background; it only covers the dissolution and the dates. Why did the Prime Minister decide to dissolve parliament, for example?
- There are a couple of uncited sentences that need citations.
- Why do we have very detailed lists of the party manifestos? We don't need these to understand the party positions; and in fact they get in the way because you have to unhide each section. This would be much better covered in prose. The manifestos are sources; they should not be verbatim in the article.
- The sequence of sections seems illogical. Why do we have a short "Electoral system" section that gives the results, before the "Campaign" section? And the information within sections is sometimes oddly organized. The Federation of Malaya is defined at the end of the "Political system" section, for example.
- The "Election firsts" section seems useful, but it's not clear which of these were the results of the Select Committee, and it would probably be useful to give more background on the committee since it was presumably formed in response to problems in the prior election, which would be good to know something about.
- A copyedit pass is needed; there are some oddities. For example:
Ruling party, Barisan Nasional (BN) consists of...
which was consented
Pakatan Rakyat gained control of five out of thirteen state assemblies (has since lost one state assembly-Perak to BN due to defection)
Following the dissolution of the Federal Parliament, state assemblies that have yet to be dissolved have announced their dissolution in quick succession. Below are the dates of which the legislative assemblies of each state were dissolved
- What's the point of the "Remarks" column in the state dissolution table? Though if you remove the information about state elections I would think this goes away.
- The tense varies; there are some sentences in the future tense; presumably these were written before the election and have not been touched since.
- The reaction and aftermath section talks mostly about voting statistics and quotes from politicians; there's nothing about the political and policy impact on the country.
I'm afraid this is a long way from GA status, so I am failing it. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:38, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
