Revert of my edit
editUser:Migitgem2009, why did you feel it was necessary to revert my edit to the page without any explanation? My edit restructured the page and made it less cluttered with tables. Narkova (talk) 15:20, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry pal, I thought I had filled it the reason box! Obviously I had not, my apologies. The reason I reverted it back to the previous version was because I was keeping the layout and structure in line with other RL team season pages from the British leagues. For example all of the 2016 season pages of the Super League sides are laid out this way and they have been for a number of years. The tables won't be cluttered as the season progresses as they will be filled with information regarding the season and selections which will be important the 2017 season page. It does seem that I am one of very few people who do take time to edit the Rugby League pages so it is nice to see someone else helping to progress the RL knowledge on Wikipedia! - Hi there! As is evident in my edit history, I'm much more active in editing Australasian rugby league pages than British ones. In my edit to this page, I changed the infobox to conform to its MOS found here, removed what I deemed to be unnecessary columns on the fixtures table, including competition, result (as it is indicated by background color) and TV broadcast rights, and made minor changes to make the page more aesthetically pleasing (such as blanking cells that do not need to have text, adding a compact legend, and merging the player appearances tables). While I understand that I overhauled the page you had been focused on, I would like to suggest that you visit a page I have maintained (2016 Penrith Panthers season) and perhaps we could be begin discussing the creation of a MOS for season pages within WP:RL. Narkova (talk) 01:00, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
- Out of curiosity which MOS did you use? The version of the season page I had previously followed the SL version (as Toronto are in the British RL system it makes sense). The layout you used suggests the NRL version which as you said you are experienced in using and tend to edit a lot of the NRL season pages. The current version of the page follows pretty much 90% of the British RL season pages so it's consistent along the years. I admit that some columns could potentially be removed and I have debated doing so. The results column for me stays, not everybody can differentiate colours and a some users will probably be colourblind too so the results column is beneficial. Also merging the team selections may work on NRL pages as there are only 24 league games with no extras (except maybe 1 or 2 playoff games) over here the SL and Championship seasons have 30 league games, plus playoff and cup games. So having a merged team selection looks awful and doesn't fit so it isn't aesthetically pleasing, having them underneath the respective competitions makes more sense and looks okay. I understand that Toronto are in League 1 where there are slightly less games (especially as Toronto aren't involved in the League 1 cup) but next season they are expected to be in the Championship so keeping the format for this season will allow a swift transition to next seasons season page. - Sorry for the slow reply. I've been tinkering with how this page could be modified to make it easier to follow for readers. Currently there is no MOS for season pages like this within WP:RL, but the infobox does have its own MOS, by the way. I don't think the fact that 90% of season pages in British RL use this template should discourage any editors from making changes to it. Wikipedia encourages editors to be bold. I concede that the result column is a useful addition, but I still feel there is many places where information can be more concise. Narkova (talk) 05:05, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
- No worries! Yeah I know that the MOS is dodgy for the RL pages, however I do use the info box ones found here. I use the Super League one to the left as Toronto (whilst not part of Super League) covers the British system which they are a part of and I kept the layout the same. As there are a lot more to the British leagues than the NRL (Challenge Cup, playoffs, Super 8's/Middle 8'/Promotion, Relegation) I find that this layout is more suitable to see. It's just a shame that there aren't more RL fans on here updating the pages as there are plenty to do! I have no issue with people editing, after all we are only doing it to contribute :) I just feel like Wikipedia likes consistency with similar pages however I do concede that the football pages can differ (Manchester United season and Arsenal season). I saw your recent edit of the stats table at the bottom and I do like your version but didn't know what to press to acknowledge and thank you :) However is there any chance we could take the last row out (headings) as we already have that at the top of the table. Regards, Migitgem2009 (talk) 00:59, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, take out those rows if you feel necessary. This is the kind of criticism that helps make the page better. :D I added that row as the length of the table was nearly taller than my screen and felt as though another row of headings would be beneficial as you scrolled further down, I guess. Next thing I'd like your input on is the season review section. I think as a new team, the ways in which players signed with Toronto is important as it demonstrates how the club grew (including the tryouts), but a description of each match is not conducive as readers are more likely to scroll past it in favour of the table of fixtures further down. Narkova (talk) 06:41, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- I managed to do that yesterday :) The difficult thing with the season review for me, is that I always start one and then due to work etc, I forget to update it as the season progresses. As you can see on this particular one, I haven't referenced anything which I should have done. So at some point in the off season I would have revamped it all anyway with sources and obviously finishing the season. I do agree with the description of matches. However it could be beneficial to note when say, Craig Hall became the first ever Toronto player to reach X amount of points etc. What are your thoughts on that? Migitgem2009 (talk) 11:34, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- Guys, I don't have a particular view on this page, but can I just say how encouraging it is to see two editors work constructively together to improve a page. It has been a long while since the rugby league project was really "buzzing" so it is good to see some positive energy. Mattlore (talk) 08:26, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- I haven't tended to include lists of milestones in my edits, but I think that could work well in a dot-point format, as is currently on the page. I find the downside is that they end up being exceptionally long, especially if the milestones are really specific, or in this case, because the club has no playing history before this season. Perhaps this can be resolved simply by including a collapsible table. Narkova (talk) 03:23, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
