Home games

edit

I don't suppose anyone cares, but for the past 5-6 years, there's been a perennial vandal, socks of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/CodyCruickshank/Archive, who inserts bogus home game assignations. No amount of banning or reasoning causes him to desist. Judging by the edit history, looks like the latest incarnation is the 220.236 IP — Preceding unsigned comment added by Local Potentate (talkcontribs) 02:17, 18 Feb 2022 (UTC)

@Local Potentate: What's your source for the game locations, so I can cross, check them? —C.Fred (talk) 03:40, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
https://nrl.com/draw/?competition=111&round=1&season=2022. To clarify what is going on, each team has one or more nominal home grounds. However, due to a number of factors, some games get moved to other locations. So Cody and his cloud of socks then decides to reassign the home team depending on his personal opinion. e.g Manly play a home game in Brisbane (https://www.nrl.com/draw/nrl-premiership/2022/round-10/sea-eagles-v-broncos/), this gets changed to a Brisbane home game here. For some reason though, he doesn't bother changing them on the results page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_NRL_season_results#Round_10_(Magic_Round) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Local Potentate (talkcontribs) 03:56, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The results page ties to the NRL website. Thanks for the explanation. —C.Fred (talk) 04:23, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The 220.236.125.200 IP has now been blocked for a month as a result of said block evasion. —C.Fred (talk) 01:25, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Looks like 110.175.242.146 IP is another sockpuppet account - same errors introduced re home game assignations. Storm machine (talk) 05:39, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Have to be ever vigilant - if valid content is added after the vandalism, it's a real bugger to go back and untangle.

Inaccessible table: Regular season

edit

Other than colour, how should we indicate the winner of each week's match? Currently this table violates MOS:ACCESS. —C.Fred (talk) 16:33, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Looking at the table and the spirit of how the data is currently represented, could the simple addition of a + or - work for winners and losers? Coupled with the colour this could assist with MOS:ACCESS concerns. Storm machine (talk) 01:40, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree on the plus and the minus or en-dash. That's the easy, obvious fix. —C.Fred (talk) 01:41, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Attendances section

edit

Someone needs to find a way to make magic round work in the attendances section. Clubs can't have unequal numbers of home games, so they must be included somehow.

There are two options:

A) Divide the total day figure by matches played to get a figure for each game (e.g. 45000÷3=15000 crowd for each game in the averages table). The total day crowd will then be included in the top crowds subsection.

B) Use the individual figures...this will inflate certain clubs' averages and be inaccurate as it double counts people, but it does accurately tell us how many people were present. Each game will also have to be recorded individually in the top crowds section, which also poses issues pertaining to an accurate depiction of the situation.

I hope those editing this section consider the need for consistency in their work. Cheers Talsta (talk) 13:59, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

There should be no issues that clubs can have unequal numbers of home games for attendance calculation purposes. The table as it is currently formatted could include the following end notes that won't affect the sorting of the data:
Club Home

Games

Total

Attendance

Total

Capacity

Average Highest Lowest %
  Brisbane Broncos 12 355,128 630,000 29,594 42,612 16,740 56.4%
... rest of the table data
Notes:
  • Teams that hosted a match held during NRL Magic Round are calculated on fewer home games
  • Optional further notes re certain clubs home games played at alternate locations (Bundaberg, Bathurst etc)

I'd also like to suggest the top attendances table be limited to 10, 15, or 20 entries maximum; or limited to attendances higher than a certain figure (maybe 25k or 20k at a push). With the following formatting changes:
Top Individual Match Attendances
Rank Round Date Home team Away team Attendance Venue
1 23 Friday, 19 August, 7:55 pm   Brisbane Broncos   Melbourne Storm 42,612 Suncorp Stadium
2 3 Sunday, 27 March, 4:05 pm   Brisbane Broncos   North Queensland Cowboys 37,761 Suncorp Stadium
Happy to assist in reformatting if this is the consensus. Storm machine (talk) 01:48, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I reckon we go 40 entries for top crowds. I went to a lot of work to put that together and the more info the better. That's the top 1/5th of crowds, seems like a nice round figure Talsta (talk) 12:50, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just exclude them. They're a separate entity with the NRL paying clubs to forfeit the home game and the gate takings in return for the guaranteed/contracted payment. Having the eight clubs with 11 home games with the rest having 12 doesn't need any explanation other than a note on the table in my view. Storm machine (talk) 12:36, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

As long as the Magic Round subsection is left where it is I have no problem Cheers
