Diacritics

I'm familiar with WP:HOCKEY's rules against using diacritics, which may or may not go against site wide policy, but with the PWHL it seems there has been a conscience effort to use them on their official website. Therefore, I feel like we should be using them here, as removing them almost seems like Original Research.-- Earl Andrew - talk 16:26, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

2024 PWHL season → 2023–24 PWHL season – The PWHL have referred to it as the "2023–24" season,^[1][2] along with third-party sources such as CBC Sports,^[3][4] The Athletic,^[5][6] ESPN,^[7] Forbes,^[8] and ABC News.^[9] The 2023 PWHL Draft took place in September 2023, training camps throughout November 2023, and the first scrimmages in December 2023. I'm opposed, as play is only occurring during the 2024 calendar year, and traditionally when that has happened (e.g. 1910 NHA season), we only include one year in the season title. -- Earl Andrew - talk 19:28, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

• Oppose for now. Nearly all of those sources are from August and September which was before the schedule was announced. More recent sources have been using "2024 season" including the PWHL.^[10] Since the season has only just started, I think we should wait a little longer to see which name catches on. We also don't know for sure that the next season will be "2024–25" so I don't want to move this article just to be consistent with something that doesn't exist yet.   • "PWHL Montreal 2024 season preview" The Athletic
  • "The [PWHL] has announced its final rosters ahead of the inaugural 2024 season" TSN

  I don't see why the PWHL should have to be consistent with the NHL, which is a totally different league. We should wait to see how the next season is branded before trying to fit to a pattern. Consider the National Lacrosse League where the 2024 NLL season began on December 1, 2023. The PWHL could very well do the same thing. BLAIXX 00:40, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

  It's not "ignoring" pre-season, it's about using the name that is most commonly used. Consider the 2023 NFL season where part of the regular season and the playoffs extend into 2024. BLAIXX 00:33, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

  I don't consider other sports on purpose, I consider only ice hockey-related leagues when it comes to their seasons. I also consider WP:COMMONNAME, the reliable sources, and the offseason business that happens according to their CBA, which by the way mentions the League Season start date is the Pre-Season Start date. Announcement of open-source code for maintaining player/goalie stats

Thus far into the season (such a short time it is), I've been maintaining most of the Skater and Goalie stats on the "2024 <TEAM> season" pages. Note that I'm not attempting to take anything away from anyone else who might have contributed to these sections; I do appreciate those contributions. However, I find it laborious to have to manually re-order all the skaters based on their current points ordering.

Being a software developer, I knew that there was a better solution than doing it manually. Over the past week, I've created such a piece of software, and I am announcing its release here. The code, written in Kotlin, is available on GitHub at https://github.com/Mavelous/pwhl.

2024–25 season

As a season-ticket holder (for PWHL Minnesota, for whatever "full disclosure" is necessary), I have received my invoice for a 15-game home season next year. That's an increase of 3 home games, which would translate to a 30-game season per team, or 6 more games per team than this year's abbreviated initial season. There has also been plenty of chatter about next year's draft, currently scheduled for June 2023. --MikeVitale 23:31, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Attendance confusion

The attendance numbers in the "League" row of the regular season attendance table don't add up.

The bottom row lists a total of 70 home games by omitting the two neutral-site games. While this is consistent with the column being labeled "home games", the neutral site games' attendances are also included in the league's total attendance, and the average in that row is the total of that row divided by 72. This is unintuitive; either the number of games in the "League" row should be 72, or the home and neutral site figures should be listed separately and summed in separate rows.

Also, the value for the "League" row's total attendance (392,259) is off by 1 from the sum of the total attendance column for neutral sites row and each team row's (392,258). All of the totals are summed in the article itself by apparently adding individual match attendances using Module:Math invocations, and the cited source doesn't list a total season attendance but is just a link to the league schedule, so I don't feel confident in finding and correcting the discrepancy myself.

The league's own press release on season attendance lists the league total as 392,259, consistent with the "League" row, which suggests one of the match report values for one of the teams is wrong. -75.164.5.24 (talk) 21:30, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
