Presidential run

Why is running for the United States Presidential position made practically impossible for regular citizens? The stipulations and unclear process by scattered information leaves this position to only be obtainable by lifelong politicians and elites. Someone should evaluate ways for individuals with average means. I would like to be a candidate and I would like to know whom I can stand in front of to discuss this opportunity for myself. 2600:1700:7A7:2C10:1480:32EE:3F1B:C9FA (talk) 02:46, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi, please read WP:SOAP and WP:TPG. This page is for making the 2024 Republican National Convention better, and in general Wikipedia is not the place to be trying to run for president. Przemysl15 (talk) 03:39, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

The elephant in the room (no pun intended)

Okay, Trump is officially a criminal. With the convention only six weeks away, We’re going to have to figure out how we’re going to deal with this. The preliminary schedule is already out, and the speakers list is going to be out soon. Should the article be modeled after the 2008 or 2012 ones? Or should it be something unrelated? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.30.59.131 (talk) 15:17, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Vance as VP.

It's been leaked already that J.D. Vance is Trump's VP,(Vice President) should that be included? From Donald Trump Jr. to Alex Jones. 68.189.2.14 (talk) 00:53, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Increase in security

In light of today's shooting where former President and presumptive nominee Donald Trump was wounded, has anyone heard anything about further increases in security for the upcoming Convention? WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 01:12, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

J.D. Vance is officially the pick.

It's been leaked that Trump told J.D. Vance that he will be the VP nominee, according to sources familiar with the matter. [1] 68.189.2.14 (talk) 21:15, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Formatting of the section listing speakers: how should we do it this year?

Suggestion on list of speakers

Since this convention marks a return to in-person conventions, I think this article should NOT loyally repeat the manner in which we listed the speakers for the 2020 convention (in a table also containing photos of each speaker, and listing all speakers for the entire program of each day).

The 2020 format made sense for those particular conventions due to the virtual format and the abbreviated length of each night’s program to only two hours (as opposed to a typical convention’s longer sessions). Also, it made extra sense since a table was the best way to indicate where each speech was delivered from (2020 virtual conventions formats —particularly the highly decentralized Democratic Party “Convention Across America” format) featured speakers in all sorts of locations rather than a single convention hall as is normal.

Here are my suggestions of what we can do this year instead:

  • OPTION A: Do something similar to the 2020 tables for speakers during the primetime (8–10) speaking slots. These are the speakers who will appear on most networks’ comprehensive coverage. For any notable speakers in non-prime-time slots, we would have a SELECT(non comprehensive) list for each day of pre-prime-time speakers
  • OPTION A2: same as previous option within this article, but we also create a spun-off article where we comprehensively list all the speakers we can verify. I believe such a list would be perhaps in-tenable due to difficulty finding sources explicitly verifying more minor early-day speakers. If we created a spun-off article, I’d suggest locating the section summarizing the content of most notable speeches within that article instead of locating it in the main convention article (as was done for previous conventions).
  • OPTION B: We return to the format of pre-2024 conventions and only include a list of select notable speakers for each day.
  • OPTION B2: Same as above within this article, but similarly to option A2 we create a far more comprehensive spin-off article on the speeches/speakers at the convention

I prefer one of the “A” options

Thoughts? Preferences? Any modifications or completely alternate proposals? SecretName101 (talk) 16:24, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

I think doing it similar to 2020 would be sufficient. In my view, there doesn't really need to be another article for speakers as proposed in A2. Atlboy64 (talk) 18:12, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
@Atlboy64 the issue is in-person conventions have HOURS of non-prime time speakers. many hardly-noteworthy and who will be given hardly more than a minute to speak. The 2020 style is very wrong for this. We cannot list every last of those speakers with photos: it’s entirely unworkable SecretName101 (talk) 04:58, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
The first day’s (that is today) speakers are in two sections: Afternoon and prime time. The official nominating speech is NOT in prime time, so it should be listed separately. For the rest, we should go by day and do the prime time speeches. 64.18.11.9 (talk) 12:03, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Attempted assassination of Donald Trump

Should the Attempted assassination of Donald Trump be mentioned in the heading? How should this article deal with this? Zyxrq (talk) 23:44, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Mentioned at the end of the lead. Also in the See Also. Jcoolbro (talk) (c) 17:13, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Can someone explain how Vermont voted for Trump if Nikki won it?

What's up with the 43 uncommitted?

Who did they vote for or what did they do? 86.31.178.164 (talk) 02:00, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Seconded. I could not find any reliable source mentioning those 43 uncommitted delegates. However this link [3] does have 41 votes that were cast pursuant to convention rules. Watching the video of the nomination, those delegates said things like "we cast 12 votes according to the rules". What I think happened there is that states who were not allowed to transfer votes to Trump under state laws, simply used all of their remaining delegate votes to vote for nobody at all. In other states, where vote transfers were legal, they switched votes from Haley/DeSantis to Trump. However, even this is speculation based on the numbers and not backed by a reliable source, in other words original research. I would advocate for removing the actual votes column. Kidburla (talk) 18:42, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

There are those 41, plus in South Dakota the person casting the votes said 28 not 29, so apparently someone abstained, and maybe there is another Abstention elsewhere I'm not sure. As far as what "a vote per the rules" means, looking at 2016, in DC it would appear to mean Trump, but in MI/VA/NC it may indeed mean Haley. DeSantis and Ramaswamy did not receive delegates after Iowa. 144.86.169.111 (talk) 15:38, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

In the locked down section - Fiserv Forum and other images

2024 RNC Fiserv Forum

I went to the Fiserv today and it is like a militarized zone full of barricades, fencing and check points. Essentially all the way from the freeway there is no access by vehicle. Got as close as I could on foot but was queried about credentials everywhere. Streets and rivers were closed, lots of helicopters, police agencies, protestors. I managed to snap some images which may be usable, and I uploaded them to commons here Lightburst (talk) 23:14, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

@Lightburst Messaged you on commons. Again, thanks for these photos and any further photos you decide to upload! SecretName101 (talk) 06:42, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

Pompeo

We need an up-to-date pic of him. At the convention he looked much thinner than in this photo. SFandLogicReader (talk) 17:50, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

Does anyone think the 2024 platform deserves its own page?

That section needs more work. Seananony (talk) 18:04, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

To answer the question, has the platform been covered by reliable secondary sources which could establish its notability? It could be another example of ephemera that serve as election-related trivia. Dimadick (talk) 21:19, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Does acclamation mean 100%? I don't think so.

I think acclamation by definition is a general show of approval, so overwhelming that you don't count voters because you don't need to. But the point remains that you didn't count. How does one know that it's 100%? SFandLogicReader (talk) 19:19, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
