Talk:2024 Stanley Cup Finals
Per the discussion in 2008 and an RFC in 2016, consensus is for all the Stanley Cup series articles to have "FinalS", with an "S" at the end, in the article title. Per the policy on article titles, Wikipedia uses the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources, NOT the NHL's official preference (see also Wikipedia's guidelines on formatting trademarks and essay on using official names). Thanks. |

Usage of the Oilers being the most recent dynasty
editI figure for a Finals appearance, and perhaps as some trivia, it is notable that the Oilers are the most recent NHL dynasty, at least according to the HHOF. Conyo14 (talk) 14:02, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Modest Genius: Please explain why you are in an edit war with myself? Could you provide some policy-based aspect on why this trivia is irrelevant despite me providing sources to attribute to the fact? Conyo14 (talk) 15:24, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- WP:BRD does not constitute an edit war. I removed irrelevant trivia from the article, you restored it without giving a reason, I removed again and explained why. Whether the 1984-90 Oilers constituted a 'dynasty' (or not) is irrelevant to the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals. That topic should be discussed on Edmonton Oilers or another relevant article, not here. Modest Genius talk
- I provided a reason... But also, considering that the Oilers' five championships within the seven years, which in the source from the HHOF (the NHL also recognizes it too) gives the menu icon for its relevance as an NHL dynasty, I figured its relevance here should be included for two reasons: 1 the Oilers have only been to the Finals twice since that dynasty and 2 the fact that we mention the five championships in that time span should be relevant to such an achievement. I would consider getting a third party to rule on this since per WP:HTRIV, we are at odds on whether we find this important or not. I'd rather avoid a WP:3RR here. Conyo14 (talk) 16:11, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think it makes any difference who called them a dynasty, it still has nothing to do with the 2024 finals. I'm happy for other watchers of this page to weigh in with their opinions. Modest Genius talk 16:20, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm adding an alternative to the page - feel free to revert if you're not feeling it, but IMO it fills a sort of middle ground. The Kip (contribs) 18:42, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- A solid middle ground. Conyo14 (talk) 19:51, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- The current version ('during their dynasty years') is fine with me. Modest Genius talk 10:48, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

- They are not the most recent dynasty per updates terms. The Lightning, Blackhawks, and Red Wings would all qualify as dynasties in the post cap era. 216.175.28.83 (talk) 23:19, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Logo
editI've attempted to upload the logo - unfortunately, I'm not the best with these types of things, and as such I'm not entirely sure why the infobox is squishing it. Anyone able to help? The Kip (contribs) 18:57, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- It looks fine to me? Conyo14 (talk) 19:21, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Must've been some temporary error, then. It appeared vertically compressed on my end. The Kip (contribs) 20:00, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Finals vs Final
editWhy does Wikipedia consistently say "Stanley Cup Finals"? You can easily see by consulting official NHL sources that it is consistently referred to as the "Final" - no S. You need look no further than the graphic right near the top of the article to see an example. 216.130.69.250 (talk) 07:19, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- Per the very first thing on this talk page, at the top:
Wikipedia uses the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources, NOT the NHL's official preference (see also Wikipedia's guidelines on formatting trademarks and essay on using official names).
- Though a lot of media says "Final" this year, and the NHL always does, the vast majority of media for the last five decades or so says "Finals," so that's how we have it. The Kip (contribs) 08:05, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
The first paragraph announces Florida Panthers overcame a 0-3 deficit to win in 7.
editThe first paragraph announces Florida Panthers overcame a 0-3 deficit to win in 7. The game by game synopses below reports the opposite is true. 2601:58B:1500:F0D0:11E8:2195:7E0A:7AE6 (talk) 10:45, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- It… doesn’t?
This was the first Finals since 1945 to see a team force a seventh game after being down 3–0, with Florida becoming the first team since that occurrence to win the title in seven games after surrendering a 3–0 series lead.
