Direct to video vs. TV film

Amazon says "This title will be released on August 16, 2016." as does IMDb. References in article only state Freeform has picked up rights to show this film on TV which does not directly support that it was filmed first for TV then released on video. Geraldo Perez (talk) 13:54, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

I'm looking for better references. IMDb and Amazon usually get this right, though, but I don't want to spring for an IMDb Pro subscription that would be a reliable source. Found this press release on Warner Bros Home Entertainment site. Supported filming commenced the date of the release, March 1, 2016, and also "we are really excited to bring this contemporary take on the ageless classic to homes this year" which supports 2016 as a release date. I think it is pretty obvious this is a direct to video project, but I am finding it hard to get solid references. Geraldo Perez (talk) 15:13, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

If it is simultaneous, I don't know, that would be something I haven't seen before - don't know how we'd handle that other than just explain what happens in the article. Usually primary outlet gets first crack at the money before it is released in other media. If it shows up for sale August 16, 2016, as a DVD before it airs on Freeform or any other broadcast outlet we will know. I also see Netflix is showing it coming in 2016 in their upcoming DVD rental section. Freeform is pretty solid for 2017 and the references say they are getting first broadcast rights.
