editThis is a work in progress, I am working on the Presidential campaign for Dr. Abdullah and updating this as info is given to me.
Please do not delete Dr. from his name, that is his proper reference.
- Two problems:
- 1. Your working in his campaign constitutes a conflict of interest, which is a violation of Wikipedia policies. It would be best if you did no further work on this article.
- 2. The Wikipedia Manual of Style dictates that honorific titles such as "Dr." be used only on first reference, and that on subsequent references the surname be used only. Please do not change this again. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 02:39, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Sorry let me re-phrase. I am volunteering due to the need to update sites like this I am not paid for what I am doing. And if I cite all of my work then there should be no conflict of interest. I would hope you would reconsider this "conflict of interest" since before I came this page was completely inaccurate and I am just volunteering my time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yousef11 (talk • contribs) 04:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Doesn't matter whether you're paid or not. You work for him. That's a conflict of interest, period. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 04:49, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I do not work for him. I volunteered to update I formation online due to the fact that no one knew how to for this site. I am in America he is in Afghanistan, I don't know how that is a conflict of interest, especially since I am doing the site a service and updating incorrect info such as place and date of birth, ethnicity, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yousef11 (talk • contribs) 07:40, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks to the worldwide nature of the Internet, your location relative to the subject's is totally irrelevant. You have already stated that you are a volunteer working on behalf of the subject and his campaign. You did a little more than simply correct his birth place and date - you wrote the entire article. You have a conflict of interest. The notice stays until others who do not have a conflict of interest do significant work on this article. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 14:34, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
The Article seems to be ok in regards to information about this guy. Dr, in Afghanisan, usually becomes part of the name not just the title. There is nothing wrong written in this article, though it needs to be expanded.Muxlim (Talk to me) 01:34, 17 May 2009 (GMT)
I corrected Dr. Abdullah's ethnicity,,,,BBC and Reuters reported that he is Half/Half,,,Tajik-Pashtun. I just want to note that most news sources in the past reported him as ethnic "Tajik" only, but now they add he is Tajik-Pashtun. Also, we need verification about the city of his birth now.--119.73.7.20 (talk) 00:09, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Was his campaign slogan REALLY "so nice they named him twice?" That sounds cool in English - but in whatever language the Afghans use, I seriously doubt it would rhyme, and so wouldn't be nearly as effective. It seems to be something Americans created and incorrectly reported as fact, but I can't read the Afghan language and so have no idea if it's true from any real sources. 65.0.98.212 (talk) 04:16, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
MD degree
editIt doesn't seem like Kabul Medical University awards MD degrees (as most doctors in the world, unlike in the US, don't have them). I believe the American source, assuming (almost) all doctors have MDs like they do in the US, is mistaken. Abdullah's own website just states he received "training": http://www.drabdullah.af/index.php?page=en_Dr+Abdullah+Abdullah--Jiang (talk) 00:01, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
The medical schools in Afghanistan do normally award MD degree; this is however different from the MD degree known in the West. Medical students in Afghanistan undergo a longer period of undergraduate training for a total of 7 years before qualifying for this degree. I am an MD degree holder from the same country.
The Importance of Honorifics, Formal Titles and Styles of Address in Maintaining Objectivity in Contributions
editI re-edited the 2009 Election section to include "Dr." Abdullah and "President" Karzai. Titles and honorifics should always be used in encyclopedic and journalistic writing, as it maintains objectivity and also is more informative. Dr. Abdullah is in fact a medical doctor, and President Karzai is in fact the democratically elected President of his nation. It is the election for the next five years that is in some dispute, but that does not effect the legitimacy of his current term of office.
The importance of maintaining both objectivity and the appearance of it are why many major newspapers have as an important part of their standard style the use of appropriate and accurate titles, such as "Her Majesty the Queen", "Queen Elizabeth", "His Royal Highness" "Your Worship or His Worship the Mayor" (the form of address for Canadian mayors, for example), "President Jones", "Dr. Smith", "Rev. Wesley", "Governor Arnold", etc. Using those enhances the appearance of balance and objectivity that is very important in their, and our, type of writing. Titles, honorifics and styles of address that the person being discussed uses, or is used in addressing them by their own people that are non-pejorative, should be used by those reporting and journaling for research, encyclopedic and historic writing (which, if we have forgotten, is what we do here at Wikipedia (-: ). Themoodyblue (talk) 17:06, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- that is exactly what we should not do. omit needless words. see standards at: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Honorific_prefixes--Jiang (talk) 11:37, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

editI put the links given as external below, since these are mostly interviews with him. So, they can be used in the article, otherwise they only make the article confusing. And I think any article cannot be used for propaganda aims in Wikipedia.Egeymi (talk) 17:47, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Father's name

editSo, (Born Abdullah). Does he even have a last name now, or has he just instructed the aforementioned "newspaper editors" to use Abdullah Abdullah? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.221.67.50 (talk) 10:54, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
